The Cattle Prod, Bouncing Betty & More New Weapons of the Deathmatch Made in Heaven DLC Pack

Posted on January 21 2013, 3:05pm | Author: R* L | Filed Under: Games

Tomorrow's release of the Deathmatch Made in Heaven DLC pack for Max Payne 3 brings the four co-op and competitive modes revealed earlier and lots more including this brand new set of treacherous close-combat weapons to the multiplayer arena. Check out a rundown of this new crop of weapons you’ll be able to equip for strategic use, melee attacks and to bring your opponents a special dose of debilitation and humiliation...

THE CATTLE PROD
Not just for herding livestock anymore. Use the Cattle Prod to get your enemies in line - perfect for running up on opponents in close quarters and freezing them with a high voltage shock before you finish them off with a devastating melee attack. Having a splash effect, this weapon has the ability to hit multiple targets that are bunched up close together in a defensive stance. A bunch of camping bastards waiting around the corner for you? Pop out – zap em – and then calmly unload while they’re frozen in shock.

THE NIGHT STICK
The Night Stick has been a reliable tool for civil law enforcement going back to Victorian times. In Max Payne 3 Multiplayer, you can equip it to not only issue a good old fashioned melee beatdown when in close combat -  but also to give the unlucky player on the wrong end of the stick a spawn disadvantage – poor vision, low health and stamina. The Night Stick is particularly useful in team games, where a teammate can get an easy kill on a respawned player.

THE STUN GUN
The stun gun is an ideal weapon for incapacitating your enemy. By temporarily cutting off muscle movement, your adversary will be utterly helpless. Capable of making contact from a short to medium distance range, your target will drop to the floor instantly, giving you the ability to end them with ease. The stun gun is especially useful against players with above-average health, such as Takedown targets in Gang Wars or those using the Big Dog and Unstoppable Bursts.

PEPPER SPRAY
Pepper Spray can be a dastardly and beneficial tool. Equip it in one hand with a trusty firearm in the other, and spray it in enemies’ faces to temporarily blind them. Then bring the pain. The Pepper Spray has the same blinding effect as the strongest level of the Hangover burst.

THE BOUNCING BETTY
A brand new projectile, the Bouncing Betty is quite the versatile weapon. If you like to snipe, just tactically place a Betty where you think enemies will attempt to sneak attack you and they will be toast. Another helpful strategy is to place them in high traffic movement areas, such as doors and entrances, guaranteeing you some kills. This weapon is also great for Gang Wars during capturing and protecting rounds. The Betty might be smaller than a breadbox but it is capable of some very rewarding destruction.

The Deathmatch Made in Heaven Pack will be available tomorrow for 800 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE and $9.99 on PC and PSN in North America (this pack will be available for PS3 players in Europe on January 30th). Of course, Rockstar Pass owners will receive this content at no additional charge.

Rockstar Game Tips: Smooth Sailing (and Steering and Shooting..) in Vice City

Posted on January 21 2013, 1:13pm | Author: R* K | Filed Under: Games

Since the release of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 10th Anniversary Edition last month, we've enjoyed hearing your choice moments, soundtrack favorites and anecdotes of miscellaneous mischief as you revisit (or perhaps discover for the first time) the sights and sounds of 1980s VC on your iOS and Android devices. We've also heard a handful of pleas asking for tips on particular missions and tasks, so here are just a few pro tip strategies from Rockstar for what seem to be the most challenging assignments.

"The mission that do you after purchasing the Malibu club and you have to go to the second island to see Phil Cassidy at the shooting rage. Man, that mission is freaking hard" - XXBro0klynJAYXX

Phil Cassidy is the best stick-up man in town and while he's not quite asking you to shoot a fly off his head from 80 feet, you'll still need a solid aim if you're going to impress him in the "The Shootist". For those who need a reminder, the mission requires you to beat Phil's score across three different rounds in the shooting range, and each is played from a first-person perspective. Note that there are two ways to control the reticle: the analog method, where you touch and hold the left-hand third of the screen to bring up a virtual analog stick, just like when moving around the world on foot; and the swipe method, where you drag along the center third of the screen to adjust your aim. You may also want to enable 'tap to shoot' in the Controls menu, so you can fire by tapping anywhere on the right-hand third of the screen and not just on the button icon.

Targets up close are tempting, but go for ones in the background. You'll get more points and can easily shoot at other targets that pass in front.

For the first round, firing at moving targets against the clock, focus on the target furthest away. Not only does this target give the most points, you'll also be able to pick off the chest sections of other two targets as they pass in front of it with minimal reticle movement. As the easiest and most lucrative of the three rounds, you should be looking to pick up 30-35 of the 60 points required in total.

In round two, focus on making each bullet count. Targets will appear in the six windows and it can be tempting to try and pop them all, only to end up chasing shadows. Keep the reticle moving around the windows at a slow, steady pace and wait for the targets to come into line. On a good day you may even take your total up to 60 in this round, or at least leave yourself with only a few to grab in the third, most difficult round.

If you try and go for every target, then you're going to find round three difficult, given the speed at which they move and the various spots in which they appear. Instead, alternate the reticle position between these two "sweet spots": the doorway furthest away from you on the left and the waist-high wall opposite that on your left. These two positions alone should provide enough targets to take you to your total, providing you put in the good work in the previous rounds.

"I'm almost on the last mission but I still need to do 'Checkpoint Charlie' for the Boatyard" - VinewoodTits

We know this one's proven difficult to our friend VinewoodTits and others, so we're here to impart some helpful seamanship. The key to driving speedboats is in following straight lines (and that doesn't mean taking Rosenberg with you). Keep looking ahead and try to collect each package keeping side-to-side movement to a bare minimum. Try to memorize the positions of tight turns and start them early - the last thing you want to be doing on the ocean is making twitchy movements as they're difficult to correct. As you approach a turn, ease off the gas while you line it up and then accelerate through. Finally, prepare yourself for the jumps and make sure you carefully line up your approach. If you're messy through that section then you're going to have trouble completing the mission within the time limit.

The December Social Club Multiplayer Events Recap

Posted on January 16 2013, 10:52am | Author: R* X | Filed Under: Games, Social Club

Thanks to GM-Shenmue for this capture of the December 15th Max Payne 3 Social Club Multiplayer event.

December brought us the final Social Club Multiplayer Events of 2012, capping off an explosive year of Bullet Time laden Gang Wars in São Paulo, free-for-all wild western Shootouts, and of course Free Roaming mayhem across Liberty City and the American frontier. Here’s to our dedicated and awesome Social Club community for all the great times – and to an exciting 2013 as we continue the Winter calendar and gear up for what’s in store this spring

Here’s a recap of action along with some highlight-reel screens and fan-captured video from the December sessions.

In December 7th's Red Dead Redemption event, the festivities began with a race at Sidewinder Gulch, where GTAIV_King got an early jump against a field that included our own RedDeadDev4. In a Gang Shootout, dylribe opened things up with a kill on Rollaw whilst scareface1970 got it from the wolves. Meanwhile, in Tesoro Azul, a bit of Grab the Bag went down with the initial team of GTAIV_King, ARTHAS010701 (PSN ID) and spookyjames  for the Marshals and RedDeadDev4, dylribeQcfrank89 and Rollaw repping Dutch’s Gang. With Dev4 eliminating ARTHAS01071 and Qcfrank89 firing a shot off on GTAIV_King right off the bat, Dutch’s Gang won the initial showdown handily. Dev 4 then stopped Marshal bag carrier spookyjames but ARTHA501071 was able to get revenge 17 yards out with the Springfield rifle. With a bag capture from d7oom_V-I-P (PSN ID), Dutch’s Gang found themselves up 3-0. Rollaw was good for one more grab and Dutch’s Gang pulled off a smooth 4-1 victory.

Over in Coot’s Chapel, Undead Nightmare's High Brains Drifter map was jumping with our monster mash out posse. Dev4 fought the good fight with fellow Social Club zombie hunters, but in the end was killed by the undead and, in a classic case of "I don't know which species is worse", by his own teammate, Rafioso. Et tu, Rafi?

Back to regular Red Dead modes, in the Carrera del Diablo cup, the Grand Prix got off to a heated start as the aptly named KIKURAZZ (XBL GT) picked off an enemy and literally the horse he rode in on, followed by the decapitation of Dev4 by Darkshniff, who earned Top of the Crop. After one race, Qcfrank89 was in first place, followed by Darkshniff and Rafioso. Winning Race 2, Rollaw suddenly found himself at the top heading into Corona’s Paradise.

Heading over to the Gang Shootout in Las Hermanas, Walton’s Gang faced off against Rebeldes. While Walton’s Gang’s zellraiden was the unfortunate victim of friendly fire by yozgatli-burak (PSN ID), the former did get arjun-22 (PSN ID) and Walton’s had momentum on their side, winning the showdown. With the match half over and production from the likes of yozgatli-burak, Walton’s Gang was still ahead but it was anyone’s game. In the second half, EdAlexandar (XBL GT) and CWBfromtheNFT (XBL GT) stepped up their games for the Rebeldes, winning $2000 to $1800.
