Rockstar Games Presents: The 39th Annual Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic - Sunday, June 17th

Posted on June 4 2012, 12:23pm | Author: R* Q | Filed Under: Rockstar

Rockstar Games is pleased to present the 39th annual Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic on Father’s Day, June 17 at Marcus Garvey Park in New York City (121st Street and Fifth Avenue).  The historic community event provides a unique opportunity for cyclists from all levels and age groups to converge on the streets of Harlem in a day-long celebration of cycling filled with competitive, high-speed racing; music, food; and family entertainment.

After continued support and recognition on the professional circuit, the David Walker Memorial Race, the highlight of the festival for all cycling enthusiasts, has been awarded national status and is one of only four races nationwide named to the two national criterium - or short course - racing calendars for 2012. Some of the world’s finest professional riders including Tour De France stage winner Léon van Bon of Holland will be taking part in what promises to be an outstanding sporting event. The race will be televised live on NYC Life TV, Channel 25 in New York City, and streamed live online – further details to follow.

"The Skyscraper is a perfect example of a strong USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar event” said Micah Rice, USA Cycling Managing Director of National Events.  “As a stop on USA Cycling’s National Criterium Calendar, the professional men’s race will attract some of world’s finest racing talent for an unparalleled display of speed, power and skill on the iconic streets of Harlem."

I am excited that the USA CRITS Series is coming to New York City as a part of a great American tradition on Father’s Day,” stated USA CRITS founder Gene Dixon “As the longest running event on the series, there is no better place to define the sport of criterium racing.”

Founded in 1973 by David Walker, a Community Affairs Officer with NYPD’s 25th Precinct, the Skyscraper was designed to attract children to a cycling safety program through the excitement of professional racing, and to offer amateur riders a chance to race in a beautiful urban setting. Mr. Walker’s vision continues with Bike New York’s Learn to Ride program, which will be available, at no charge, to children from 1:00 to 3:00PM during the amateur races. Additionally, a BMX stunt show will take place, including BMX racing instruction for children.

Registration opens at 11AM on Father’s Day followed by a series of children’s and amateur races starting the day’s festivities at noon.  Race winners will be going home with new bicycles - another David Walker tradition honored by the event.  The day will conclude with the prestigious David Walker Memorial Race.

11AM - Registration opens for Kids, Amateur, Pro races
12PM - Kid’s sprints and lap races begin
1PM - BMX stunt show begins with performances throughout the day and BMX classes for children
1 - 3PM - Bike New York’s Learn to Ride program
1PM - Amateur races featuring various men’s and women’s categories and events
3:55PM - Call to line for pro racers
4PM - Skyscraper NCC and USA Crits event - David Walker Memorial Race

The Skyscraper is, above all, a community cycling festival, with fixed gear races, children’s events, great food and music, and some of the most spectacular, professional racing to be seen anywhere. We’re extremely proud to be sponsoring the event for the fourth year in a row and members of the Rockstar Games team will be on-hand with Rockstar-branded merchandise to give away near the start and finish lines.

For more details on the event, check out their official site at http://www.skyscraperclassic.com.

Rockstar Game Tips: Utilizing Grenades in Max Payne 3 Multiplayer

Posted on May 28 2012, 6:59am | Author: R* K | Filed Under: Games, Rockstar

Max Payne 3 Multiplayer offers a deep and varied arsenal of guns with which to dispatch your opponents, but for those special occasions where you can’t see the whites of their eyes, there is a deadly range of projectile grenade options with which to flush them out or take them down. Our latest entry in the Max Payne 3 Tips Series highlights what they are and how to use them effectively.

  • Quick Throwing - Simply tap LB/L1 once to pull the pin and release a grenade in one smooth motion – perfect for when you’re in a hurry.
  • Weapon Wheel Grenade Selection - While holding down LB/L1, press RB/R1 to equip the grenade of your choice, ready for you to throw using RT/R2.
  • 'Cooking' Grenades - After equipping a grenade using the Weapon Wheel, it is also possible to hold the RT/R2 button and ‘cook’ the grenade. Cooking grenades can reduce the time your enemy has to escape before getting caught in the explosion. Be careful though - if you cook a grenade for too long of course, it will explode in your hand.
  • Sticky Grenades - In multiplayer, if you equip the Sticky Tape Loadout item then you will be able to attach grenades to the environment, making it even more difficult to escape.

While standard-issue explosive Grenades are great for flushing enemies out from behind cover or taking care of larger groups, you also have access to other grenade types - each with their own unique tactical benefits.

  • Flash Grenades are useful for temporarily blinding your opponents and blocking their ability to use lock-on. This effect can be counteracted by equipping the Military Goggles Loadout item.
  • Gas Grenades create a cloud of noxious gas that can cause death to anyone exposed to it for long enough. Using these grenades against enemies that are defending an area is a very effective strategy. The effect of these grenades can be counteracted by equipping yourself with the Gas Mask item.
  • Smoke Grenades create a thick cloud of smoke that cannot be seen through by friend or foe alike. They are useful for obscuring your movement from the view of nearby enemies. Enemy players will also not be able to use Lock-On targeting to aim at players through the smoke.

There's also an additional pair of projectiles at your disposal that are useful in certain situations. A crude but effective incendiary projectile, the Molotov (part of the Disorderly Conduct Multiplayer Weapons Pack include with the Max Payne 3 Special Edition) creates a large patch of fire on the ground where it lands and any enemies exposed will take continuous damage for a few seconds. And while the Tin Can might not sound lethal, it creates a very handy strategic diversion on a nearby enemy’s mini-map, giving you an opportunity to get the drop on them.

Max Payne 3’s Multiplayer Loadouts

Posted on May 14 2012, 10:44am | Author: R* Z | Filed Under: Games, Rockstar

In Max Payne 3 Multiplayer, you can create up to five complete player Loadouts that can be customized to make sure you're equipped with the perfect set of Weapons, Bursts, Items and Projectiles for every battle and to suit your playing style. So before heading into Gang Wars, Payne Killer or Deathmatch - you can tailor Loadouts for use with a personal, powerful and strategic combination of weapons and special abilities to switch between on the fly.

Hit up www.rockstargames.com/maxpayne3/multiplayer/loadout and prep yourself for the battle that begins this week, previewing a taste of the over 80 items at your disposal - from Bursts like Trigger Happy, which drops high powered hardware into your hands when and where you call for it - to Items such as the Gas Mask, which protects you from the effects of Tear Gas (also a Projectile that you can equip your Loadout with).

The Loadout page also shows how each Item and weapon will impact both your stamina and the speed at which your character replenishes health - so you'll have to equip wisely to decide whether you're going to go in with heavy firepower and armored up and armed to the teeth - or equip a lighter-weight Loadout for a nimbler soldier with faster health regen. You'll also find a breakdown of Burst Tiers, showing examples of how individual Bursts ramp up in effectiveness as your adrenaline increases from racking up kills and looting fallen enemies - plus a selection of all-new screens of Loadout Bursts and Items in action.

Bullet Time®, the signature gunplay mechanic of the Max Payne series, makes its way into Multiplayer.

The Max Payne 3 Classic Multiplayer Character Pack

Posted on May 9 2012, 4:37pm | Author: R* Q | Filed Under: Games, Rockstar

Presenting the full line-up of rogues and heroes in the Classic Multiplayer Character Pack available at launch as part of the Max Payne 3 Special Edition (the pack will also be made available for download post-release). This cast of fan-favorite killers from the original Max Payne and Max Payne 2 will be available as playable Deathmatch characters bringing a bit of nostalgia to the Max Payne 3 online experience. Take a look at the full set with introductory musings for each compliments of Max's inner monologue direct from Max Payne and Max Payne 2...

VLADIMIR ‘VLAD’ LEM
"Vladimir Lem.
He was connected to organized crime. We went back a while. 'Like brothers caught on the opposite sides in a Civil War'. His words."

VINCENT ‘VINNIE’ GOGNITTI
"Gognitti was a highstrung whiner on the verge of breaking apart like an overamped Energizer bunny. He had the brains to run the business but he lacked the balls, always falling short, taking his frustration out on under-aged addicts and call girls."

JACK LUPINO
"Jack Lupino, a mob boss in the Punchinello crime family, was trafficking. Lupino ran his racket of sex, drugs and contract killings from a sleazy motel and a slum block of tenements."

ALFRED WODEN
"Woden was there... in the crowd, standing by the sidelines. It wouldn't be over till the man with the patch would say so. He'd say the right words. I knew he would. He'd better."

MONA SAX
"Mona's appearance had triggered a dislocation, schizophrenia. I felt elation, but with it, fear that all the past evils had come along for the ride."

VALERIE WINTERSON
"Winterson was the ideal, what the job was all about. Someone to look up to. Bravura knew it too."

NICOLE HORNE
"I had dreamed of revenge. Those dreams were always nightmares, of coming close and then failing. Now I was close. I had a name to guide me. Nicole Horne. I had nothing to lose."

MAX PAYNE
The eponymous and troubled hero of the series returns in a familiar guise for multiplayer deathmatches - appearing as his character model from years prior as an NYPD detective in Max Payne 2. You'll also be able to get the character model from Max Payne 1 at launch by pre-ordering from Toys R Us and select PC digital retailers or as part of the Rockstar Pass later this summer.
