The Rockstar Editor: Check Out the First Video “Running, Man” by 8 Bit Bastard

Posted 3 days, 20 hours ago | Author: R* Q | Filed Under: Social Club, Games

We’ve been admirers of the work of the 8 Bit Bastard GTA movie-making troupe on YouTube for quite a while now – including such memorable and creative vids over the past year as “Into the Deep”, “Toy Soldiers”, “Bird Stunts”, “A Whole New (Gen) World” and their clever GTAV re-enactments and parodies of Boardwalk Empire and more. So when we recently discovered that one of the members of the four-man team (Shoalts) lived here in our hometown of NYC, we jumped at the chance to invite him to Rockstar NY to test out the Rockstar Editor and commission a cool little demo video from them.

Shoalts, in collaboration with us and with his 8 Bit Bastard brethren Chaney, Gordy and Sonny, created this fun piece you can watch above entitled “Running, Man” – depicting the loneliness of the long-distance Trevor set to the tune “K.Y.S.A.” by Phantogram featuring Bass Drum of Death (from the new GTAV PC radio station The Lab and the forthcoming LP Alchemist and Oh No Present: Welcome to Los Santos).

Read on for a bit more on how the video was made and some insight direct from Shoalts of 8 Bit Bastard that may help inspire your own directorial efforts as you begin creating with the Rockstar Editor move-making tool.

On favorite features of the Rockstar Editor:

“The ability to vary depth of field during a shot is amazing. There's nothing more satisfying than balancing the depth of field and tuning the new filters to get the perfect shot.
The filters are totally customizable and can completely change the feel of a scene.”

On the creative possibilities that the Editor now provides for:

“Before the Rockstar Editor, we were pretty restricted in what we could create because we could only record what was on screen.
Now you can take the camera anywhere you want, I think we're going to see some awesome machinima that just wasn't possible before.
The new Director Mode is a huge deal for the creative community.
The freedom to change weather, time of day and turn off cops is really useful. It also lets you choose from a huge list of playable characters, including animals, so I can't wait to see the kind of videos that'll start surfacing.”

On his experiences making movies ‘on location’ in Los Santos & Blaine County:

“What it comes down to is the ability to stage things that simply aren't possible in other games, or even in the real world.
GTAV's map is huge, diverse and alive, so there really is no limit as to what you can pull off. Now that we can take the camera off the rails in the Rockstar Editor, the sky's the limit.”

For much more detail on the Rockstar Editor, check out the full user guide at the Social Club website and feel free to share links and info on your own debut Rockstar Editor creations here in Newswire comments below.

Fan Art & Snapmatics: "A Hard Day's Heist", Homemade Los Santos Blueprint Map Skateboard Decks & More

Posted 4 weeks, 1 day ago | Author: R* X | Filed Under: Social Club, Games

This week’s collection of favorite fan creations features inspired album cover remakes, clever GTAV skate decks, plus some truly exceptional Snapmatic photography.

LazyAssedLover is a member of both the Kendrick Lamar fan club Black Hippy TDE Crew and the Snapmatic Art Crew - and here shows his love for both with this pretty spot on recreation of Kendrick Lamar's Good Kid M.A.A.D City album cover. Made entirely with in-game photography and the Snapmatic meme creator tool.

Just in time for Online Heists, deviantARTist Exubiuz pays tribute to a Fab Four classic and to the original Story Mode Heists experience by casting Trevor, Michael, Chop and Franklin as Paul, John, Ringo and George.

You're going to want to zoom in on the full size version of this impeccable bit of GTAV pixel art done by MedianGame shared by Redditor Walkerbane.

One sock, no pants, spattered in blood, on a rampage. Sounds about right. Trevor by Omerta aka chaosandentropy.tumblr.

@realmarston vies for the title by indelibly honoring his namesake with this monster Red Dead Redemption tattoo he tweeted our way. This epic half-sleeve took 8 hours non-stop - true grit.

Photographer, illustrator and graphic designer @panama_red1981 fashioned these awesome GTAV skateboard decks repurposing materials from the game packaging: "I used the Special Edition Blueprint Map, [Trevor, Michael & Franklin] team picture and game box."

Snapmatic trick photography? Not quite - avid GTA photog Sophie used the PS4 Share feature to create this very clever 'taking a mental picture' shot.

STUNNING SNAPMATICS

GTAForums recently hosted their Annual Awards and below are the three winners in their Best Snapmatic of 2014 category with Starscream910 taking top honors for a fiery shot of the Bravado Buffalo entitled "Golden Dragon". Congratulations as well to Cratoz911 and quaid86 who were awarded second and third place respectively. Check out the winning shots below.

To celebrate hitting 200 members (and now up to nearly 400!), the Snapography Crew hosted a contest recently asking members to "recreate the spirit of Vice City" and hashtag them #vice200. The result was a totally awesome neon-tinged 80's flashback. The shots above were taken by (clockwise from top left) contest winner Manny2Shoes, incredible91852PSNmadman and RyanArtWorks.

Crew Cut: The New Wave of Motorcycle Clubs, Crew Battle Report and More

Posted on March 4 2015, 6:09pm | Author: R* L | Filed Under: Social Club, Games

In this week’s Crew Cut, we salute the rough and tumble new wave of Motorcycle Club-themed Crews that have been riding heavy over the past few months on Xbox One and PS4. Read on for that and much more - including updates on recent underground tournaments and official Crew battles.

SAN ANDREAS MOTORCYCLE CLUBS – REMASTERED ORGANIZATIONS

THE HOOD DONZ
Ride! Ride! Ride!” GTA-Capone's Hood Donz are Crew Cut veterans given their history of colorful Crew coordinated music videos. Now on PS4 and Xbox One, Capone has successfully expanded the DONZ brand into Motorcycle Club territory with the launch of the dedicated Hood Donz MC in January. Open to new gen as well as PS3 and 360 players, the main requirement of getting in is that you're exclusively in Hood Donz MC and Hood Donz MC only. As Capone puts it, this family-based Crew "focuses less on the military styled crew operations and more on good old fashioned fun and destruction" and "blood is definitely thicker than water (especially when we spill it)."

THE LOST MC ELYSIAN
Based "primarily in the industrial site and docks of Elysian Island in Los Santos", The Lost MC Elysian are sitting on chrome and breaking heads all over town. In addition to gritty short films like the one above, “We Are the Road Crew” (set to the Motorhead tune of the same name), check out some of their other well-produced Crew videos including recruitment and hijack themed movies and evidence that they’re getting in lockstep in preparation for Online Heists. TLMC also have a club website that features everything from a list of allies and enemies to a time conversion table to help members from across the globe coordinate linking up Online.

An adversary gets shanked by a member of The Grim Legions MC

THE GRIM LEGIONS MC
Also riding on all four consoles are The Grim Legion MC, who’ve been established for more than a year now. In addition to their website, where potential prospects can find the Social Club pages of the appropriate Chapters, Grim Legion MC also have a hold on YouTube and Instagram. Grim's vids consist of first person rides on various choppers such as the Western Bagger and their Instagram page includes badass Snapmatic montages, original MC patches, and tribute art to members. For fans of the melee, the gallery page of their site includes shots of the Crew proving their mettle in fist fights from Paleto Bay to La Mesa.

Of course these are just a few of the fearsome Motorcycle Crews out there tearing up southern San Andreas, so feel free to roll call shout yours out in the comments section below and let the Social Club community know why you’re the baddest in town.

TOURNAMENTS AND BATTLES REPORT

BODY BANGERS TOURNAMENT RESULTS
In the last Crew Cut, we reported on round 1 of HOT_KIMERA and CAP PILLAS' epic grassroots 4v4 TDM Body Bangers Tournament. After more than a month of semi-finals, finals and ultimate championship bouts, the triumphant body banging Crew has emerged victorious: THE HOT CLAN.  Leading up to the finals against the SouthVinewood Ballas, HOTZ never lost a round and this time was no different. Overall, HOTZ and SVBG finished with 435 and 409 kills respectively, with the Damned Brotherhood just behind with 408. Congrats to HOTZ and all the Crews for the solid competition - to catch up on highlights from throughout the tournament, check out the entire highlight playlist here.

UNTOLD LEGENDZ VS MURDERCLAN
Also on the underground battles scene, the Untold Legendz (who defeated the Sons of lost Souls last May live on our Twitch channel) displayed more of that dominance recently against the MurderClan. In a Head-To-Head best-of-three TDM Playlist, the Legendz slaughtered their opponents by a grand total of 347-240 – watch some sick highlights in their video above.

ELITE TDM BATTLE: KOMMON KILLERS DEFEAT II DEATH D3ALERS II
The top two ranked Team Deathmatch Crews on Xbox One, the Kommon Killers and II DEATH D3ALERS II, turned up eager to fight it out for bragging rights on the Rockstar Twitch livestream stage. Though the Killers have more kills (73.5K), the D3ALERS sport a much higher K/D ratio (2.08 compared to 1.46) - so there truly was no odd-on favorite. First Job in the strictly TDM playlist was the Verified The 80's Turf War - and the D3ALERS came out swinging, living up to their K/D rep by getting kill after kill and enjoying a healthy 28-21 lead about halfway through. The resilient Killers however, refused to give up and ate away at the deficit, squeaking by with a 40-39 win. Shaking things off for the second Job, the D3ALERS stayed just on top of their opponents for most of the match, and then widened their lead to take a 40-31 win. From there, the D3ALERS never looked back, ultimately winning the day 5-1. Major props to the Killers as the final tally doesn't quite reflect on the level of competition - the final Job alone was decided in the final seconds. Thanks to Crew Leaders itchybutton97730 and warnedbird for hanging out with us via Skype for the entirety of the stream and their sportsmanship - and to the elite warriors of both Crews for putting on a heck of a show. We're currently lining up more elite battles featuring the some of the best performing Crews out there - including some of the top Racing squads - so stay tuned for those to be announced and make sure you're following us on Twitch and Twitter to be sure to get the word.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY XDBX

To celebrate a full year since JustHatched launched the Domestic Battery Crew and all of the hijinks and games won since, representative Crew members brought their two-wheeled musical instruments to the Vinewood Bowl for a stunning rendition of "Happy Birthday." HBD XDBX.

New Rockstar Verified Jobs: First LTS Creator Selections, a Zombie-Clown Shotgun Shootout and More

Posted on February 3 2015, 12:20pm | Author: R* M | Filed Under: Social Club, Games

Today, we've got ten exemplary additions to the pool of Rockstar Verified GTA Online Jobs, including the first batch of creations utilizing the Last Team Standing mode. There are also five additional new Verified Jobs, including a fun and frightful Capture that's among the best we've seen to date. Each of these has a maximum of 16 players, so they are all available now to play across all platforms.

Congrats to all our featured creators, and a special acknowledgement is in order for those picks in our #LTS Creator Competition, the masterminds behind those Jobs will each receive a GTA$1,000,000 infusion and the exclusive BODYBAG in-game license plate.

We're also adding select Jobs from this latest round of Verifieds to Friday's new Featured Playlist, and will be showcasing them on our Twitch stream later this week at 4PM on Friday, February 6th.

The sun shines down on San Andreas Shootout LTS.

#LTS CREATOR COMPETITION SELECTIONS

Stealth Required! LTS - created by sgt-vaguepouch
An epic and exhilarating arena-style LTS in the woods around Raton Canyon. Teams face off across a gully and must either use the natural contours and cover to get close enough to draw first blood, or find themselves long-range weaponry and fight from afar. As with all Last Team Standing Jobs, your blip on the enemies HUD is always visible, so use your teammates to provide a distraction while you grab the central RPG and try to sneak behind enemy lines. Although limited visibility through the trees makes long-range sniping a challenge, you can find good positions to take out the entrenched opposition. As sgt-vaguepouch explains "Stay out of sight or approach carefully. Take your time to take the opposition out one by one."

San Andreas Shootout LTS - created by wafflemann
An excellent example of an LTS that presents different challenges for each team, much like the Rockstar Created Skyscraper. In this case, the "robbers" start on top of the parking garage, hunkered down with Molotovs, RPGs, Heavy Snipers and Advanced Rifles. Meanwhile the "coppers" approach from the GOH in FIB cars, the Police Riot armored truck, or the Buckingham Swift. Coordination and timing on the ground is key in order to outsmart the team with the height advantage – try to surround them and lure them out from their hiding place, but don’t get caught in the crosshairs!

Teammates shoot across the gulch in Stealth Required LTS.

Lumberjack LTS - created by MRPTHUGLIFE
MRPTHUGLIFE, leader of Free Aim Crew GTA United World, elected to use props sparingly over a wide area in this vehicle-focused Job. Each team begins with four Buzzards and four Rhino tanks at their disposal, but more treats are tucked into the hillside above the coastal road just south of Paleto Bay. The Buzzards can be used in two ways: protect the Rhinos as the ground assault team move in on their opponents; or take to the high ground and land next to the RPGs and Heavy Sniper. From there, bed in and wait for the right moment to strike.

Close Quarters LTS - created by Matt-Conman
An excellent arena-style LTS that forces you to move fast and think faster in order to outwit your opponent. Stick with the default setting of 4 Rounds since each Round is short and brutal. Teamwork is key to cover all of the angles. Once everyone is posted up, move between cover spots to attack from both sides or overload the enemies with 2-on-1 situations at close quarters. The default weapon is the Combat MG, a rapid and powerful machine gun with the range to pick off heads peeping out from behind wrecked buses. Props to Matt-Conman for the balance on this Job, giving both sides different elements to play with, but equal opportunity to take the win.

Bowl Brawl LTS - created by coleco-vision
Already having been played an impressive 2.5k times, this one is a balanced and fun map with a high replay factor. Set in the Vinewood Bowl (a space we think has been surprisingly underused for Deathmatches and LTS Jobs), both sides spawn near SMGs, and must either make a break for the RPGs up in the nosebleeds, or put themselves center stage to collect the Minigun. Tip: stick to the side walls to minimize the chance of getting caught in the crossfire, and also to maximize the cover available to you.

ADDITIONAL VERIFIED SELECTIONS

Contend: Zombie Town - created by count_poopula
Here, Blaine County's quiet moonlit farming village of Grapeseed is transformed into a zombie-infested, post-apocalyptic circus of death. On your way into town, abandoned military vehicles and artfully-placed pickup trucks provide smart visual cues evocative of classic zombie horror movies. Coulrophobes beware - in the center of town is a clown-infested circus where a Sawn-Off Shotgun will blow away the first wave of knife-wielding night terrors, but once you're surrounded there's no escape. Teamwork is crucial to battle your way through to the Capture bag, and protect you from the shots fired by the Team coming in the other direction. Make for a quick exit, but be sure to leave some of your Team behind, so that they are primed and ready for when the Capture bag respawns.

Be sure to watch your back in Contend: Zombie Town.

Rodeo Loop - created by mozo15
An exciting, high-speed Super class Race around Portola Drive and the Vangelico Jewel Store. This crisscrossing track promises high speed collisions in any 16-player session, and allows anyone slipping behind the leaders to still make a nuisance of themselves. Neatly placed roadside props indicate a detail-orientated Creator in mozo15, although cynically placed tire stacks will punish any wildcards who don't respect the course layout. Be careful of the road's natural contours around the subway, as these could also spin out anyone falling foul of the "less haste, more speed" truism. A track for the mature racer.

Border War - created by TRIPLE_extremo14
A moody and atmospheric battle amidst the undulating terrain of the Grand Senora Desert that's best played at night and with the rain pounding down to heighten the tension. Be careful in the ‘no man's land’ between limited clumps of cover: stay close to your team and communicate as you dash between cover to make sure you have all points accounted for. Powerful weapons & explosives litter the battleground and can easily be used to blast away stragglers. Note that the Buzzard placed near each team's spawn point does not respawn, so use it wisely. Also, there are RPGs on the battlefield but they're not Homing Missile Launchers, so be sure to set Weapons to Forced and Pickups - to ensure the Buzzards can't be picked off too easily.

Sedans race past the eponymous nightclub in Bahama West Mama Mia!

Bahama West Mama Mia! - created by bobchilli
A very short, very technical Race around the Bahama Mamas West nightclub in Del Perro. Tight turns, narrow alleyways and a 16 player limit make this race chaotic, difficult and a great challenge. The default vehicle class of Sedans is an inspired choice for swinging round the corners while not letting players pick up too much speed and lose control going through the alleyways. Stick with the default non-contact setting and aim for a clean Race to max out your chances of earning a W - you might even be able to lap a few stragglers over the course of 3 laps. Bobchilli is a Race Creator veteran, with 53 excellent races to his name - congrats on your first Verified, Bob!

The Slipstream GP - created by MossyTossy
Set in the heart of Downtown LS, The Slipstream GP has the look and feel of a real Formula 1 track. This high speed Race contains hairpin bends, tricky chicanes and quick changes in elevation that demand full concentration. Long straights will allow racers to really open up the throttle, but the Race will ultimately be won by skillful drivers who know when to tap the brake in order to hold the racing line. Stick to the default Jester vehicle for maximum enjoyment, and opt for the Race liveries to fit in with this professional looking course.

Please note that in addition to occasionally changing Job names due to taste, copyright or other reasons - we also from time to time will make other small edits to players' Jobs before making them Rockstar Verified. This includes, but is not limited to modifying spawn points, improving checkpoints or increasing/decreasing the amount of weapon picks ups for a particular Job. Once Jobs are Rockstar Verified, they become available for play across all platforms, so you'll have all these newly Verified creations available in your next Freemode session (and you can always bookmark them at the Social Club for easy access in your next session).

Go ahead and post your Job below in the comments (only once, please don't spam) with a punchy explanation of why it's worth checking out. We're always looking for new player-created Jobs to add to the Rockstar Verified program and the best way to get noticed is to have a solid Race, Deathmatch, Capture or LTS that's been thoroughly tested by the community and refined into the most fun and fair experience it can be.

Crew Cut: Tournament Time, Crews in Real Life and More

Posted on January 23 2015, 11:02am | Author: R* L | Filed Under: Social Club, Games

In this edition of the Crew Cut, we cover an ongoing tournament that promises to be packed to the brim with action, more Crews meeting up IRL, a new Reddit squad causing chaos and a couple of awesome Crew propaganda videos that caught our attention. First up, a few of our favorite Crew Snapmatics from recent weeks:

Clockwise from top left: During production of Malicious Intentt's Reservoir Dogs tribute video, co-Lieutenant greatler took a moment to grab this behind-the-scenes shot of MAIN keeping their cool amongst the chaos; Efin Secsy Club Crew Leader ThunderChild09 has been updating this Snapmatic every time the 5EXY Crew member count reaches another century - not far til' the next one! GT69-Racing Crew look surprisingly intimidating with The Festive Surprise Stocking Masks on their head, in leader SANFORD55's menacing selfie; The Ganja Outlaws Crew celebrate the New Year with a bang.

TOURNEY TIME

Seasoned GTA Online tourney producers HOT_KIMERA and his CAP PILLAS Crew kicked off their GTA Online Body Bangers Tournament this past weekend and things got off to a banging start. Round one of this thirty-Crew Free Aim tournament on PS4 saw Crew Cut vets such as the CAP PILLAS and Ineffable Arts Crews and lots of newcomers including the SouthVinewood Ballas, SEVILLE DIABLOS, Underworld Mob Kings and many more. Congrats to all the first round winners: Ineffable Arts and CAP PILLAS, the DIABLOS and Mob Kings, iTS A Blurr, KiLLIN ALL ON SiGHT, CASHOUTGANGG, Masked Terror SquaD and TRAPMOBB BROUGE AVE. You can check out all the action from last weekend in the highlight vid above, plus part two here with a part three coming soon. Round two begins today at 4pm ET and carries on through Sunday - watch the battlin' live on Kimera's Twitch channel. Good luck to the remaining Crews! Have a tournament or special Crew event you're hosting or participating in that you think we should know about? Hit us up with the details at community@rockstargames.com.

CREW SPOTLIGHT: The LosSantos Aliens

Alien Nation: This "average Crew session" is total chaos with redditors The LosSantos Aliens (SNOO).

The LosSantos Aliens Crew caught our eye thanks to the ridiculous gif posted above, which shows exactly what a free roam Crew session should be all about. SNOO are the official Crew of the /r/GrandTheftAutoV sub-reddit and have strong ties to fellow redditors the GTAAdventures Crew who we've previously featured for their part in this sick Skyfall recreation and tilt-shift Toy Soldiers collab with 8-Bit Bastard. A quick glance at The LosSantos Aliens sub-reddit points to committed squad hosting regular meet-ups of all kinds on all four different platforms. If you need any more convincing to get involved, check out this vid filled with more Crew mayhem. It's easy to see why, in the 6 weeks since their inception, they've nearly filled their roster. With the remaining spots going fast, head over to their application form if you wish to join.

CREWS IN REAL LIFE

Hillbilly Agenda Crew have been at it again, hand-delivering more custom Crew license plates across the country to their fellow Crew members. This time Crew Leader KnoxNerd and his son MarkusMerk flew themselves from Tennessee to Virginia to deliver a plate to co-Lieutenant IgnesousJester29. Exceptional effort guys! Merryweather IMF Crew have continued this trend, over an even greater distance. When Aussie co-Lieutenant the_killer_ewok was travelling through Europe, he stopped off in Germany to sample some "local culture" with Crew Leader NAVAL_SEABEE. After a few steins at a local brewery, NAVAL_SEABEE presented the_killer_ewok with a Crew T-shirt he designed himself. A noble gesture and just rewards for journeying such a distance.

Hillbilly Agenda (HBAG) Crew co-Lieutenant IgnesousJester29 is the latest member to get a hand-delivered custom plate from Leader KnoxNerd.

CREWS ON FILM

Merryweather IMF's camaraderie is clearly evident in-game as well, with this follow up to last year's tongue-in-cheek recruitment video. As NAVAL_SEABEE explained it to us, in the past 8 months MIMF have culled down 1,000+ applicants to just over a hundred elite operatives, committed to protecting the Freemode city from red dot psychopaths, play crazy custom Missions, and overall have a great social experience. KDR hitmen, proficient gunners, expert pilots and great GTA cinematographers are all welcome to apply for second phase of the Crew: Gone Rogue. To find out more, check out the following recruitment video:

Reuchlin5 of the Merkalot Crew was sure to hit record in this Team Deathmatch Crew Battle against the MexicanMafia1MXx Crew that saw MERK shutting 'em down 3-0. Want to show off your Crew's battle skills? Hit us up on CrewChallenges@rockstargames.com to take the good fight to our official Twitch channel for a live Crew vs. Crew Battle. Keep an eye on our Twitter and the Rockstar Newswire for Crew Battle announcements in the future.

Finally, an awesome recruitment video from Social Club stalwarts the Ganja Outlaws - showcasing the organization and creativity we've come to expect from them. In this one, WEED take advantage of the expanded lobbies on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in this Toots and the Maytails inspired highlight reel that showcases exactly what you can expect from their next-gen Crew meets. We also enjoyed this montage of them Smokin and Ridin' their way around Los Santos. Keep up the good work fellas. If you've created a video showing off the best of your Crew, please post them in the comments below or send them to us direct via mouthoff@rockstargames.com.
