Crew Cut: Gearing Up for the Future and Paying Tribute to the Past - Plus an Emblem Auteur and More

Posted 14 hours, 29 minutes ago | Author: R* L | Filed Under: Games, Social Club

ANTICIPATORY GTAV CREWS

We haven't detailed the features of Grand Theft Auto V's online mode as yet (stay tuned for first info soon), but there's already a whole slew of Crews rallying, preparing and raring to go - with some creating some pretty impressive emblems along the way inspired by the artwork and information we've revealed about the game thus far. In today's edition of the Crew Cut, we take a look at early field of GTAV Crews out there preparing for West Coast domination later this year.

Established nearly a year ago when we first rolled out the Crews system, The GTA V FIVE Crew (GTAV) are one of the longest-running and also the highest-achieving with the most wins we've seen out the V Crews carrying 327 total and a win percentage of 60% throughout all their bouts playing Max Payne 3. needyday31468 is the star of this PS3 Crew with 3,955,250 XP, livelyweek95346 is in second with 3,893,778 and lumpy80011 has 2,475,585 XP. Over the last month, they've had a tight Feud with The YRA Crew (featured in our last edition), winning three Feuds a-piece while just edging them out with 38 kills to 37. Just a one digit differential, but enough to tip the scales in GTA V FIVE Crew's favor.

Though they've been quiet since February perhaps waiting in ambush for what's to come, the Sons of GTA Crew (GTAV) have a winning legacy, earning a record of 98-90. Under the leadership of stumpy4770, these guys were busy across all three consoles but with just over 16.3 million XP had the most luck on PS3. In fact, last month they created the PS3-only Crew Sons of GTA crew2 (GTAV), with an emblem that takes its inspiration from Trevor’s all-terrain rampages (seen below far right).

Beyond these O.G. GTA Crews, we've seen a flurry of new jacks appearing on the scene of late, staking their claim amongst the V themed Crews and marking their territory with Emblems of varying awesomeness. We've noticed not one but two Crews so far dedicated to the teachings of KIFFLOM - the Epsilon Program Crew (EPSI) whose members are proud to say that they "all come from the same tree" (FACT) and The Epsilon Cult Crew rocking FACT on their tag - we think Cris Formage would be proud. The Los Santos Free Roam Crew (LSFR) founded by iLewisGTA are ready to bounce, rocking greennawesome's custom designed emblem that riffs on not only the classic LS but also on the Rockstar logo. In recent weeks, they've grown to over 160 members - getting strong, now.

A few examples of V-inspired emblems: greennawesome's art for LSFR, Ivanwebstudio's work for OCPC and stumpy4770's Trevor emblem
for the Sons of GTA crew2.

IVAN THE OPPOSITE OF TERRIBLE

Speaking of the handiwork of ivanwebstudio - as we took a closer look at this gentleman's body of work, we felt it meritous of a proper Crew Cut shout. This guy's really taking it to the next level as you can see here. Ivan’s excellent recreation of the Cash and Carry: By Sea artwork seen above middle for the legendary Consumer Products Crew has led them to abandon their usual Robocop motif (save for the OCP logo itself of course) in favor of some straight up GTAV action. The humor, unique style and attention to detail seen in each of his pieces places him firmly in the pantheon of true Social Club Emblem artistes, alongside the likes of ErnestoRock2, Bizerker21, SovietAgent, Noru112YourTaxesAtWork, and odd_one, to name a few. Ivanwebstudio has created his own Made In The City Crew (MITC) Crew which also serves to showcase his best emblems, much like YourTaxesAtWork’s Emblem Addicts Crew (MBLM). We don't expect MITC to be all style no substance though given their fair warning status: “Crew starts to exist in the first weeks of Grand Theft Auto V release!” and early indications from their brief battle history (2-0; 20:6 KDR). We’ve exhibited a few of Ivan & MITC's best emblems below (decorative framing our own), but feel free to have a visit their gallery to browse and critique more pieces.

Beyond building an impressive MITC portfolio, ivan's also been a gun-for-hire lending his talents to some of the most prolific Social Club Crews out there including The Beer Barons, Fear The Wrath, Razamanaz and the politically-minded (and yet all business with a 88% Feud Win PCT) Russia Without Putin.

MANHUNT FAN CREWS

Social Club Crews aren't just gearing up for the future, but have also keenly paid homage to Rockstar classics of the past - and with this week's release of Manhunt on PSN in its 10th anniversary year, Social Club member PitchforkPig of the Carcer City Police Crew (CCPD) did us a solid and reminded us of all the Crews that exist in tribute to the story of James Earl Cash. Some other notable Manhunt themed Crews worth a shout include the Valiant Video Inc Crew (XVVX), the War Dogs Crew (WDOG)The Church of Piggsy Crew (PIGS) and last but certainly not least the Project Manhunt Crew (HNTR) which represents the long-running Project Manhunt fansite and was founded by PM's Pogo_PM. Check out a line up of these fan-created Crews below. Thanks as well to all fans of the title who've signed up to join our own Rockstar official Manhunt fan Crew, the Manhunt Executioners, who are now 19,783 deviants strong and topped by hellraiser733 on Xbox LIVE, psycho_slasher_6 on PSN, and EvilRincewind on PC.

WHAT'S BEEF

After our last Cut featured Crews that were successfully Feuding against the same handful of rival squads in March, we had a couple of others contact us, boasting of their own prowess that rightly deserves some shine. The Ange de la Mort Crew (XADM) has an astounding 3,055 wins and 90% win percentage overall. Over the last month they've been dominating the general pimpin Crew (PIMP) and the Smurfies Stooges Crew (SMRF). They've been particularly solid against that first Crew, getting 52 wins to their paltry 2 and banging out 520 total kills to their 184. Even more impressive, they've almost completely shut out the usually fearsome xVx-TheAgency-xVx (AGNT) 18-1. Not bad.

The Ineffable Arts (RED7) Crew also contacted us and, while their total tally of war stories (743-143) is a little lower, they do have a similarly impressive 90% win percentage. Most important, they've been dominant in every one of their top three Crew Feuds over the last month. Against the CAP PILLAS Crew (BANG), they've won 36 out of 41 matchups and have 345 kills compared to 223. In their month of Feuds with the PS3THC Crew (THC1), they have a nearly perfect winning percentage of 98% and a not-too-shabby 82% against the GOLD LIONS Crew (LION).

WE WANT YOU...

...to take it to the stage, sucka. Got a rivalry brewing with another Crew? We see plenty of it here in Crew Cut comments - why not put up or shut up?
Or maybe you're an aspiring squad just trying to get a rep and have your sights on a top class Crew like Clubber Lang eyeing up the champ.
Either or, what better way to find out who has the better chops than doing so in a live stream via the official Rockstar Twitch page. While we are no longer accepting Crew vs, Rockstar challenges and are now hosting Crew vs Crew grudge matches, each Crew will get one of our skilled R* players on their side for the duration of the stream in order to facilitate the live stream and to keep things fair. We're already finalizing some battle details with a couple Crews out there - including the mighty FAHQ is ready to take their ever-flaring Feud with AGNT to the ol' free-per-view broadcast - we're just waiting to hear back from the latter (that's a nudge in your direction, Agency). GeNeSis x (IPRO) has also let us know that they want to throw the gauntlet to the Murders Death Kill Crew (MMDK) so, MMDK, you've been challenged. Hit us up at crewchallenges@rockstargames.com and we'll let you settle things on the battlefield.

Finally, Gold Aces Crew (ACES) leader Zorpio submitted this clip of Crew members getting together in Hoboken to absolutely mangle a bunch of randoms - hard to think of a better endorsement for teamwork. Zorpio, we couldn't help but notice your squad has been Feuding as of late with our old friends the MURDA SQUAD GANG Crew (MSK1) - if you want to take that beef to a larger stage, give us a shout.

The April Rockstar Multiplayer Event: Recap with Fan Videos, Prize Winners and More

Posted 3 days, 13 hours ago | Author: R* K | Filed Under: Games, Social Club
Cheers to ShenmueSaga for capturing a saga indeed of gameplay footage from the event.

The April Rockstar Social Club Multiplayer Event was an all-new epic live-streaming edition hosting a six-hour Saturday marathon session on April 13th. Along with action-packed multiplayer across such Social Club Event staples as Grand Theft Auto IVMax Payne 3, and Red Dead Redemption, we also pulled the tarp off our muscle cars and dusted off the old ping pong paddles for a nostalgic go of Midnight Club: Los Angeles and Table Tennis with Social Club fans. You guys certainly seemed happy to see these old friends on the stream. For those who may have missed out or are ready for more - we'll be looking to do it again this month, stay tuned for news soon on the May edition.

The first port of call was Max Payne 3 for a round of Run and Stun in Branco Headquarters - part of an eclectic playlist that featured some of the more recent DLC game modes and introduced Last Man Standing and Team Last Man Standing game variants, which some of you may remember as featured modes from previous events. In one match, our PlayRockstar2 fought hard on Xbox 360 but couldn't quite stay in check with MARK ALAN DARK, who edged out Wicked9Klown 55 Points to 49. Those two would continue to be a thorn in PlayRockstar2's side, both wielding the IA2 AR assault rifle with surgical precision.

Meanwhile, PlayRockstar was knee-deep in a Team Deathmatch in Nova Esperança on PS3. Opting for a heavy Loadout with the M4, dual 9mm and Weapon Double-Dealer, our Dev went up against ToniMessiaMike921hajisaito-san and Blitzard219 of the Shine Thugz Crew (whose stunning Parisian pride Emblem we featured a while back in The Crew Cut). PlayRockstar fought a hard match but the Shine Thugz gang French fried us in the end, winning 78-44.

Over on PC, PlayRockstarPC and porosenok85 went right down to the wire in a thrilling match of Run and Stun - the mode where one player assumes the role of the villainous troll Saci and the rest try to survive his onslaught. Playing as Saci ourselves, we were leading with three minutes to go, looking good, in control and poised to take the win. However, when Wizard88 picked up a kill with the PT92, it opened the gate for porosenok85 to embark on a last-ditch rampage and pip our player to the post 322-268.

PlayRockstar didn't stand a chance against the sting of illyaillya's stun gun.

Read on for a recap of action in Table Tennis, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto IV...

Crew Cut: The Feuds Edition

Posted 3 weeks, 1 day ago | Author: R* L | Filed Under: Games, Social Club

As we approach the one year anniversary of Max Payne 3's release, the competitive landscape of multiplayer continues to be a breeding ground for battles between Social Club Crews. In addition to scheduled matches, one of the ways rival factions can settle their differences is via Feuds, which are automatically triggered during skirmishes and give bonus XP to the first Crew to notch kills on their opponents.

Our latest edition of the Crew Cut pays tribute to those Crews who’ve not only Feuded plenty as of late, but have also been beefing consistently with some of the same squads. To evaluate these kings of conflict, we looked for the Crews that Feuded the most but also had the best win percentages.

Going by total Feuds in March, the beefiest of the beefers on Xbox LIVE were the Consumer Products (OCPC) Crew. Out of 2,559 total Feuds OCPC has 1,412 wins (55%). Over the last month, they’ve Feuded the most with the Eu Soul Brasil e VC (ESBV) Crew. Going all the way back to August, OCPC just can't seem to dominate ESBV though, racking up 135 wins against 217 losses. Their rivalry with KILLER SMOKING ACES (XKSA), which also dates back to last August, is going better with 191 total wins and 78 losses. Speaking of Eau Sou Brasil e VC, this squad ranks second with 2,001 total Feuds, winning 1,238 of them (62%). In addition to their tussles with Consumer Products, ESBV have also been Feuding a lot with the OneEightSeven (X187) Crew, trailing 79-105 over the month of March. In third last month was the LXG Crew (LXGC), winning 840 out 1,773 total Feuds (47%).

While not as voluminous as the aforementioned trio, credit must be given to the Fear The Wrath (FAHQ) Crew – who had an astonishing 94%, and The-Agency-xVx (AGNT) Crew – who came in at 63%.   What they lacked in overall volume (FAHQ Feuded just 612 times) they more than made up for in the epicness of their ugly, ugly beef against each other. Over the last month, FAHQ have dominated AGNT 90-14 but their rivalry goes waaay back, as evidenced in this compilation video from February. We love the intensity and passion guys, but your cardiologists might recommend you dial it back just a tad.

On PSN, the UnitedSickAssassins (USA1) Crew  had a large lead in terms of March winning percentage with a solid 70%. One of their biggest beefs was with the THE FIRST 48 (48HR) Crew, who actually had the most total Feuds (1,996) for the month and a respectable 55% win percentage. Led by Johnboy305, 48HR trumped the H-Town Goon Squad Crew (GOON) 125-57, and kept their PIMP hand strong against Paper In My Pocket, going 94-34. The second highest winning percentage out of the high volume Crews for the month was the ROTA-Forca Especial (ROTA) Crew squad with 53%. Out of 1,647 total Feuds, they won 870. In third was S-13Brasil (13BR) Crew, who had 513 wins out of 1046 total Feuds (49%).

Winter Social Club Events Recap: Multiplayer Mayhem Across Liberty City, São Paulo and Armadillo

Posted on April 1 2013, 12:10pm | Author: R* Y | Filed Under: Games, Social Club

During the Winter months of January and February, our Multiplayer Events calendar featured some insane action as we joined the Social Club community to pay a series of bloody trips to the killing fields of Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption multiplayer while also getting down with modes from Max Payne 3's last serving of DLC - the Deathmatch Made in Heaven Pack. Read on below for a full recap of the last four events. For those asking about the next chance to play online with Rockstar, let's just say keep your calendar clear for next Saturday the 13th - we're working on a special weekend event playing ALL our multiplayer games from the past few years (including Midnight Club LA and Table Tennis), plus rare prizing, bonus XP and more - details will be posted on that next week here at the Newswire.

Saturday February 23rd saw over three hours of nonstop action in Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes from Liberty City modes. On Xbox LIVE, our dev GwRockstar3 began the first GTA Race of the day in 8th place and was off to a slow start on the water. While iixxgearsxZz (XBL GT) and Akinks102 (XBL GT) battled it out for first, we were showing some rust on the turns. However, it was our good fortune that the pack had trouble on the rocks, allowing us to move into fifth place. Towards the end of the first lap we were up to second, trailing only CartmanMBK. In the midst of illyaillya shooting down iixxgearsxZz, we took a ramp jump squarely but after running into a buoy, things went south fast. We went from blasting through the open waters to backing up that little boat like we were docking the Staunton Island Ferry. After course-correcting, we were neck and neck, trading fire until iixxgearsxZz went soaring over a seawall whilst we smacked directly into it, Looney Toons style. Our dreams of a comeback dashed, CartmanMBK took first with 3:03:73 while illyaillya came in a close second at 3:08:16 and tehzombiekiller took third with 3:16:50.

Switching over to The Lost and Damned on PS3 with a spirited game of Witness Protection, henriquedematos of NOOSE sent a clear message to The Lost by decimating Kiwi-OGSF. A little later on, AerialRumble (PSN ID) successfully crept up on our own PlayRockstar in a cruiser, but since their roll was a bit tooo slow, we were able to retaliate. After some stunting on our hog, we struggled to locate the mark buckshot_SLMC in our scope, resulting in one of the state's witnesses making it safely to headquarters. As a consolation though, Kiwi-OGSF was able to take 'em out later. A lot of back and forth throughout the entire round, DoE-BLaCK-413 was able to blast bd93hu and Reality_Cheque while Lugnut_SLMC (PSN ID) was on a tear airing out Unam9564, Playrockstar and HoboPiss all in a row. With two state's witnesses already delivered safely for testimony, things weren't looking too hot for The Lost. bd93hu stepped it up to nab buckshot_SLMC and then DoE-BLaCK-413. Down in Chinatown, we thought we had a shot at the third and final witness but DoE-BLaCK-413 was able to interrupt our grand plans. The round ended in a tie with $1500 per team and standout players being DoE-BLaCK-413 (11-2) and Lugnut_SLMC (6-4).

Some action-packed footage of the February 23rd event, thanks to trusty ferguson99.

Crew Cut: The War Report

Posted on January 25 2013, 3:23pm | Author: R* M | Filed Under: Games, Social Club

Since we first challenged Social Club Crews to step up and take on our Rockstar Dev Crew in Max Payne 3 Multiplayer, the battles have been flowing fierce and fast, each one streamed live via the Rockstar Games Twitch TV page. Facing off against some of the most passionate and dedicated Crews out there has shown us both the thrills of victory as well as some agonizing defeat, as you can see from the box score results below. Read on for the full report from the battlefields over the past couple months...

Proving that the most skilled Free Aim PC player Crews are truly an elite and rarefied breed, our most recent game held on January 15th saw the Dev Crew on the wrong end of a 3 - 0 thrashing at the merciless hands of The Beer Barons Crew. The Beer Barons let slip the dogs of war over the course of three games, but were charitable enough to let our Devs win one round in each of the Gang Wars. Things looked grim off the bat in the São Paulo Bus Depot as Snuser offed MaxPayneDev1 for the first of many times, just as scoring began. Brandishing dual PT92s, xOpiate30x also had a big showing. The Team Deathmatch in the Nova Esperança was the real kicker as the Devs succumbed by a wide margin. Porosenok85, number two on the Crew’s leaderboards out of their total 69 members, flexed his BEER muscles throughout the game, as did Narbe974 and Qlw34k.

The two games prior to that however were a reversal of such misfortune, as the Rockstar Devs notched a 3-0 win against the Mp3 Killers Crew last Saturday the 12th. Things got off to a bloody start during the Gang Wars of the Nova Esperança when MaxPayneDevDev1 rocked LAgamer4life by way of the IA2. After a couple of minutes of one-sided brutality at the hands of the Devs, Chillwar82 decided his mates needed to wake up and did so by blasting Dev2 not once but twice, first with the AR and again with the 1911. From there, the round was a ping pong match that the Devs eked out 58-56. Later on, Dev1 received more abuse, first by Easy--B’s sawn off and then berries_odingle’s AK-47 and just like that, the Mp3 Killers were on the board.  The rest of the match saw the Devs dominating and, finishing with MaxPayneDev9’s devastating kill of SsWOODYsS, the Devs won the war.

In the second match against KILL, the two Crews got rolling in the São Paulo Bus Depot. With an assist from Dev1, MaxPayneDev13 started the festivities with an M10 attack on Babba_Banshee. A little while later, after some back and forth between Dev1 and bigwho1313, the former had the last word and then Devs were up two rounds to none. Continuing to respond to pressure, the MP3 Killers worked hard to protect the target, Banshee_Babe. Despite some early aggression from MaxPayneDev11 on SpBloodRed, strong efforts from Chillwar82 with the AR and OG_Murk, the Mp3 Killers Crew held on and won chapters three and four. However, the Devs picked up the pace in the final chapter and found themselves up 2 - 0. Over at the Tietê River Docks in the final match of the day, Chillwar82 went on a rampage with two kills in a row on Dev1 and the Mp3 Killers found themselves in the lead. Murda_N_tha_1st followed suit and with bigwho1313 taking names with the AR, the Mp3 Killers rocked our Devs 125-75 in Chapter 1. Unfortunately, the Crew could not keep the magic going and the Devs wound up taking the afternoon with a 3-0 shutout.

Hit the jump below for a round-up of our matches against Tha Bullys, United Sick Assassins, Pro Killers Unleashed, Killer Smoking Aces and Xvx-The-Agency-xVX, as well as a recap of our first Crew vs. Crew grude match battle battle between the Ganja Outlaws and Murda Squad Gang...
