Max Payne 3 Video Previews and Interviews at IGN, G4, GameTrailers and Destructoid

Posted on April 4 2012, 10:36pm | Author: R* Z | Filed Under: Games

A big round of Max Payne 3 video interviews have hit in the past few days - touching on both the single-player story and the game's multiplayer experience.

IGN's new video preview of Max Payne 3 dives deep into the mechanics and features that make up Max's bullet-riddled world. Highlighted in the piece are the advanced Euphoria physics that turn Max into 'a wrecking ball' and allow him to dive and slide down steps in realistic, and painful looking ways, and the game's fluid blend of the third-person perspective with slick FPS controls - to create a game they call 'the 3rd-person shooter to beat in 2012.

And Lead Multiplayer Designer Charlie Brewsher recently sat down for a series of interviews with G4, GameTrailers and Destructoid to talk about the game's unique multiplayer Gang Wars and Payne Killer modes - and provide more details on how Bullet Time®, Loadouts and other multiplayer customization options work. Check out the G4 interview below and hit the jump to watch the others.

Rockstar Game Tips: Speedy Cabs, Fast Cash and More for Grand Theft Auto III: 10 Year Anniversary Edition

Posted on March 27 2012, 4:02pm | Author: R* Z | Filed Under: Games

Whether you're a newcomer to Liberty City following the release of Grand Theft Auto III: 10 Year Anniversary Edition for mobile devices last fall, or if you've been a citizen for over a decade strong, there's much to discover in 'America's Worst City'.

While some of you hardest-of-the-hardcore GTA fans may be well familiar with these, here's a few helpful hints and hidden treasures that many may not be aware of - special tips to nab yourself rare vehicles, fast cash and explosive weaponry...

SPEEDY BORGNINE

You can give those front bumper spikes a proper test against hostile gang peds.

Hop into any kind of yellow taxi and then press the wheel icon on the left side of the screen to start taxi missions. Once you've driven 100 people to their destinations (something you can track in the in-game stats),a red Borgnine will be parked at Borgnine Taxis in Harwood. It's faster and stronger than a regular cab, and it has some seriously killer spikes on the front. We recommend giving it a whirl on El Burro's 'Turismo' race.

Hit the jump for tips to get fast cash for vehicles, secret molotovs, and armor...

The Weapons of Max Payne 3: Submachine Guns (New Video, Screens & 360-Degree Renders)

Posted on March 23 2012, 12:00pm | Author: R* Z | Filed Under: Games

Our latest feature on the weaponry from Max Payne 3's devastating arsenal highlights the submachine guns (SMGs) - lightweight automatic weapons that can hose their targets with bullets within seconds. With the weightlessness of a pistol and the rapid-fire rate of a much bulkier machine gun, these spray and slay weapons make short work of enemies at close quarters as the holder maintains slick maneuverability throughout.

You can dual-wield the lighter SMG models such as the M10 and the Micro 9mm to let these slug slingers take out opponents in double-time. Prefer a little more kick in your SMG? Then pick up the heavier SAF .40 with two hands and rip through the armor of your foes.

Explore the video above to see more of the SMGs unrivaled speed, mid-range accuracy and surprisingly powerful punch in action, along with detailed 360-degree renders that show off all of its individually modeled components and a selection of new screenshots.

(Updated) “The Experience Is Mind-Blowing”: The Press Goes Hands-On with Max Payne 3 for the First Time

Posted on March 1 2012, 7:18pm | Author: R* Z | Filed Under: Games

** UPDATE: More hands-on impressions have hit including previews from IGN and GameTrailers and a special fan Q&A with GameSpot, check out quotes and links and the video added below.

The worldwide gaming press got their very first hands-on session with Max Payne 3 - picking up the story early on, they find Max and his partner Passos meeting up with the ruthless Comando Sombra gang at a local football stadium in an attempt to exchange cash for the captive Fabiana Branco. However, things quickly turn bad as the deal is crashed by unknown assailants. From there, they’re also given a taste of a level where Max tracks Fabiana's kidnappers to the hostile, rain-soaked docks by the Tietê River...

Their impressions? Check out a few quotes and links below to read just a few of the brand new previews...

"It's easy to be impressed when you're standing on the outside looking in. Once you're actually in control in Max Payne 3, the experience is mind-blowing." - CVG

"The game looks fantastic, handles beautifully and the depth of content in both its in-game design and settings seems to offer a ton of replay value. Not only that, its story, which is set up in such a straightforward manner, seems to hint that intriguing denouement is on the cards for the game's titular character. Players should look forward to a tale of greed, betrayal and decadence wrapped in sleek, cool mechanics that allow them to tackle it one bullet at a time." - The Guardian

“Bullet-time, and especially the shootdodge mechanic that you can initiate by running in any direction and pressing the right bumper, can be a glory to behold.
After jumping back into the game to finish the docks segment, I came away from the whole experience incredibly pumped for what Max Payne 3 will have to offer. With a cohesive storyline that's told in a similar but more evolved fashion and tight combat mechanics that make you feel like the bad-ass that Max Payne always has been, I sincerely cannot wait until this game comes out in May.”

“After just a few demonstrations, we've learned that Max Payne 3 is something more than just a shooter; it's a graphical powerhouse, a push forward for linear action games as a storytelling medium and an expert at concealing its gleeful enthusiasm for realistic hyperviolence behind a veneer of grim resolve. After playing through a couple of its levels, we learned something else: it's also a lot of vicious, bloody fun...” - GamesRadar

“Max Payne 3's cinematic approach works brilliantly, and though much of what we've seen so far is set in South America, the demo implied that these chapters will be interspersed with episodes from Max's tortured past in New York. He's always been a compelling protagonist, and it'll be fascinating to see him explored further.” - IGN

“The third Max Payne, the first in more than eight years, is raw, third-person shooter thrills. Naturally, it's imbued with the cinematic flair for which Rockstar is known, drawing cues from Hollywood and Hong Kong cinema, crafting memorable characters and an engrossing story.” - GameTrailers
