Rockstar Game Tips: Adversary Modes Offense Defense, Cross the Line and Hunting Pack

Posted 3 days, 7 hours ago | Author: R* M | Filed Under: Games

Along with all the customization and cruising going on over at Benny's Original Motorworks, GTA Online: Lowriders also features Adversary Modes including Offense Defense where two teams trying to reach a finish line must protect their team's runner from enemy assault whilst also crashing and bashing the opposing team's runner to prevent them from reaching that destination first. In this latest edition of official Rockstar Game Tips, we offer up ways to master Offense Defense along with two other recently released Adversary Modes from the Freemode Events Update.

These tips will especially come in handy tomorrow as Offense Defense will get you Double GTA$ and Double RP as the current GTA Online Lowriders Week concludes. Be sure to stay tuned to the Newswire for part two of this Adversary Modes Game Tips series for pro tips on other new Adversary Modes such as Keep the Pace, Relay and Slasher – and to find out about other future bonus periods to get double payouts on Adversary Modes.

Offense Defense supports 2-4 teams, each color coded so that you know who's a friendly Protector and who's coming for your neck.

Offense Defense

In this checkpoint Adversary Mode, teams of two are divided into Runners and Blockers. While the goal of the Runners is to get to the end of the route first, the Blockers (in faster, more powerful vehicles) must block the opposing Runners from finishing while also protecting their teammate from enemy assault.

For this mode, communication is vital. You and your teammate should be constantly in contact with each other - if you're the Runner and in a jam with the enemy, give a shout to your Blocker. Speaking of Blockers, they cannot see checkpoints so if you’re the Runner, you can lead them a little astray and then quickly double back, leaving them trying to setup ambushes for routes you're not even taking. As the Runner, instead of just following the yellow route, consider taking shortcuts to head ‘em off at the pass and stay a step ahead of your opponent. Just use caution as veering off the path at times might take you through some rough terrain that is tough to get out of. If you're having difficulty getting past your attacker, there are a few maneuvers you can try. If you're in one of the new Lowrider vehicles, a well-timed hydraulics leap might get you out of a jam. Alternatively, by respawning your vehicle and thus returning you to the location of the last checkpoint hit, you'll be provided another opportunity to pick up speed and race past the blocker. Another strategy to consider as Runner is hanging back in second place until the last minute as often all the focus is on the leader. The Blockers will take care of them, leaving you to cruise past to victory at the right moment.

If you find yourself in the role of Blocker, don't leave your Runner behind - they're the only member of your team that's able to cross the finish line. If you're having difficulty catching up to the first place Runner, manually respawn and you'll automatically respawn in their vicinity. Since as the Blocker, you won't be restricted to the same path given to the Runners, with a bit of map awareness you can cut across to the players ahead of your teammate and block them.

In Hunting Pack, you and your team must keep that speed up all the way to the drop point before the relentless attackers can slow you to a quick boil.

Hunting Pack

In Hunting Pack, a heavy vehicle has been rigged with explosives that will detonate if it doesn't maintain a certain speed. One team is tasked with bringing that truck or bus to an combustive halt, while the other must defend it and ensure it reaches its destination intact. The booby-trapped vehicle is slow but very sturdy, so the attackers will need more than one person at a time to try to nudge it off course. For this reason, communication is crucial to coordinate attacks all at once and brute force the target off the road or into an obstacle. Time your attacks when the Runner is turning a corner, or driving close to immovable objects on the side of the road. Once the Runner has come to a halt, surround 'em and apply your hand brake to ensure they can't get on the move again.

The Runner should avoid going uphill or off-road at all costs as there are often rocks and other debris that will slow you down. If at any point you are brought to a halt by the Attackers, reversing will give you a small chance to get clear of your pursuers and gain enough speed to get back on track. Although the GPS will show you a route to your destination, it's sometimes not the best path to take; try find a route with wide, long roads to give yourself some room should the Attackers start to encroach. Defenders should act as a buffer to fend off the attackers, stay close and in formation around the Runner, and be able to force the Attackers off the road should they get too close. If playing as the Runner, you should also keep your peripheral vision sharp for telephone poles and other immovable objects, as well as embankments that you can sideswipe would-be Attackers into (as Jasper Dolphin of Odd Future memorably did against Danny Brown's team as seen here). Should the Runner be brought to a halt, the Defenders can also help their Runner out with a friendly nudge to help get their speed back up. Be careful though - a nudge from the wrong direction can send your Runner veering into a nearby tree or oncoming traffic!

In Cross the Line, reckless individual running and gunning is a surefire route to failure. Advance as a choreographed unit with constant communication moving from cover to cover to the end zone.

Cross the Line

In Cross the Line, the objective is to have your entire team cross over no man's land and get into enemy territory alive. Of course, at the same time you must prevent the other team from crossing your own team's line first. If you die, you'll spawn all the way back behind your own line and have to start the process again so teamwork, tactics and communication are key; going lone wolf and making a mad dash for the line will only end badly as you'll be stuck in enemy territory with no support. Work as a team to ensure you all cross the line as one. If one of your comrades falls behind, you must provide cover fire until you're able to regroup. Crucially, play defensively and stay alive to give them time to join you behind enemy lines.

The playing field is littered with cover, so make good use of it and plan your approach. One option is to move slowly from cover to cover and make sure the coast is clear before moving up. You can also use a flanking method, either splitting your team to create a crossfire, or all going hell for leather down one side of the map. The second option is risky as you could be leaving your own end zone defenseless, so make sure to move fast as a group and gang up on any enemies encountered. In Cross the Line, you're given a single SMG as well as a Grenade. Use the Grenade you're given to draw your opponents from their cover. As you make ground towards the line, make sure not to fire or sprint unnecessarily as this will display your current location to your enemy on the radar. Finally, if the time runs out before one team gets across the line the game will go into Sudden Death, using one of the two rulesets (which are chosen in the pre-game lobby):

  • First Over Line: You only need one player across the line to win, so make a dash for the line when you see an opening in the enemy's defense.
  • Kill All Enemies: Each player only has one life in this LTS sudden death mode so take it easy - don't rush for the line, and stay in cover as much as possible.

If you have any of your own personal pro-tips not covered here, please feel free to share them with the Social Club community in the comments below and stay tuned for Part 2 of this Adversary Modes Game Tips series coming to the Newswire soon.

Rockstar Editor Contest: Create the Official Music Video for Little Dragon's "Wanderer"

Posted 3 weeks, 6 days ago | Author: R* M | Filed Under: Music, Social Club, Games

In the first Rockstar Editor contest open to all three platforms, PC players will now be up against the talented hordes of creators on PS4 and Xbox One. With increased competition and an incredible pack of prizes for the winner, everyone will need to be on top of their game to have their video chosen as the official music video for Little Dragon's "Wanderer" off the Welcome to Los Santos soundtrack.

As well as being open to three platforms, this is also the first Editor contest in which players can take advantage of the new Rockstar Editor features released in the Freemode Events Update - including Sound Effects, Ambient Tracks, refined Clip Management and more.

Little Dragon have commissioned the Social Club community to create their official music video for "Wanderer". Little Dragon themselves along with Rockstar Games will be reviewing the finalists and deciding who wins. Here's a bit of direction on what they are looking for:

Entrants are challenged to create a music video using the Rockstar Editor telling the story of a rogue - a very clever double-agent or double-crosser who plays two sides of a criminal enterprise to her or his own advantage.

You may have heard the track on the Alchemist & Oh No Present: Welcome To Los Santos album and the new in-game radio station The Lab, you'll want to know it inside out to ensure your visual accompaniment is pitch perfect. To get you thinking about your own interpretation, here's the track for you to listen to:

As well as the prestige of having your opus selected as the track's official music video, the grand prize winner will receive an incredible pack of prizes including a gold game controller (with real 24K gold paint) customized with your personal Social Club ID. The winner can choose between an Xbox One or PS4 controller, or a G510 Proteus Core Gaming Mouse featuring 11 programmable buttons, customizable weight and five selectable DPI settings, from headshot-precise 200 DPI targeting to lightning-fast 12,000 DPI maneuvers. Not only that but the winning director will also be able to craft their next masterpiece from the comfort of a Rockstar Editor branded director's chair, also featuring your personal Social Club ID - a throne fully befitting a champion. Finally, the rare and coveted GTAV Varsity Jacket will also be sent your way - featuring a special custom patch touting your status as a Rockstar Editor letterman for the world to see.

Two runners-up will each receive a $100 Rockstar Warehouse gift card and a deluxe prize pack of official GTAV gear and will also be featured here at the Rockstar Newswire.

Entering the competition is easy. Simply create a video in the Rockstar Editor on PC, PS4 or Xbox One and publish it to Rockstar Games Social Club via the in-game menu. Make sure to tag your video with the word "wanderer" to enter it into the contest. You can do this in-game, or via the My Videos page on Social Club. A few important points:

  • The video must feature the song "Wanderer" by Little Dragon as its soundtrack, and only that song.
  • Your video must be between 4 and 5 minutes in length.
  • The video must be published to Rockstar Games Social Club and tagged with the word 'wanderer' between now and 11.59pm ET on November 23rd to be eligible.
  • The video must be made entirely using the Rockstar Editor. We know that many advanced Rockstar Editor video creators like to use additional third party editing software but in order to keep this competition fair for all entrants, we require that you only use the Rockstar Editor in producing the video.

Little Dragon and Rockstar Games will pick the winning clip taking into consideration adherence or interpretation of The Creative Brief mentioned above, entertainment and artistic value, editing quality and overall creativity. Watch the Social Club contest page to see how other Social Club members think your clip stacks up against the competition and stay tuned for the winners announcement later this fall.

Void in certain countries and where prohibited. See for official rules and eligibility details.

Rockstar Game Tips: Mastering Freemode Events Part Three

Posted on October 12 2015, 1:38pm | Author: R* M | Filed Under: Games

In the final edition of our Freemode Events Game Tips, we take a look at more pro-tips to help you dominate Hold the Wheel, Criminal Damage and the 19 Freemode Challenges. Be sure to check out our previous installments of Freemode Events Game Tips to gather knowledge for these brand new games and challenges.

Before heading in to the maelstrom of Freemode carnage, make sure you're ready to go and primed for whatever will be thrown at you with these general all-purpose tips:

  • Stock up on weapons and ammo at Ammu-Nation, equip some strong Armor and grab some Snacks to top up your health when it gets low.
  • Fully stock your garage with a good range of cars and motorbikes so you're ready to take on any required terrain. Also, purchase a swift plane and a chopper to dominate some of the aerial challenges or traverse the map quickly.
  • Not all Events have to be a solo affair. Some Events allow you team up to seize the day. When the job is done, you can share your winnings by going to the Inventory section in your Interaction menu, and selecting Cash. From there, choose the player you'd like to share with as well as a percentage cut.
  • When in Freemode, keep an eye out for the purple text and UI in the top left hand corner; it will provide useful tips about the current Event.
  • Stay true to your objective; maintaining focus on the main objective in all the Events helps you avoid getting caught up in combat with other players, which will only slow you down.
  • If you want to avoid auto-targeting your friends during Events, be sure to set your Player Targeting Priority to Strangers.

Heading off-road is a good way to lose your pursuers.

To succeed at this Freemode Event and earn a tidy pile of cash and RP, you must quickly locate a specific vehicle that shows up on your Radar. You will then be tasked with holding onto it until the timer runs out. All players in the vehicle at that point will split the rewards, so feel free to team up to keep hold of your prize.

As soon as this Event begins, make your way quickly to the vehicle's location indicated on your Radar and secure the surrounding area before stealing the vehicle. If you're trying to gain possession of the vehicle, avoid the use of explosives as the vehicle cannot be destroyed. A more efficient method is to try and ram it off the road and dispatch the passengers within. The players within the vehicle can duck to provide some cover against the attackers. They should also consider heading off-road, as this will ensure that the attackers are unable to set up roadblocks and may also help to lose any other pursuers. Remember, it's the players who are in the vehicle when the time is up who will be victorious, not those who have been in the longest.

Creating a pile-up on the freeway will quickly add zeroes to your final total.

It's time to rack up some apocalyptic property damage to earn yourself a generous cash and RP bonus. Keep in mind that the more expensive the stuff you wreck, the higher the score, so head on over to The Vinewood Hills, Richman, and Rockford Hills and do Trevor Philips proud by going on your wildest rampage.

Before the Event starts, make your way to the nearest Ammu-nation and stock up on explosive weapons and ammo - and remember - the bigger, the better. After you're fully locked and loaded, head to some of the more affluent spots in the city and park up on a busy road, covering and blocking both lanes of traffic. Once the Event begins, equip your RPG or Homing Launcher and destroy all of the unsuspecting cars that have stopped at your roadblock. Focusing your fire on vehicles such as high-end super cars, emergency vehicles and buses will net you a bigger, meatier score. Killing opponents will also give you an added bonus, as you'll earn the total value of all the designer clothes they are wearing.

Search far and wide for the perfect spot in the Longest Jump Challenge.

Freemode Events also include a series of challenges, geared to proving yourself the best in key abilities. These include achieving the Longest Jump, Most Headshots, most Near Misses and Longest Fall Survived amongst many more. These 19 new Challenges will give you plenty of opportunities to use the Action Replay feature in the Rockstar Editor to relive your crowning moment. The top 3 finishers in each Challenge receive cash and RP for displaying their talent, so time your winning flourishes well.

These Freemode Events Challenges will test you in a multitude of ways and will require you to think about the best way to tackle them. Here are some handy tips you might find useful:

  • Make sure that your GTA Online character is in top physical shape by increasing their stats. This will help you gain an edge over your opponents.
  • Learn the best areas in Los Santos and Blaine County for each Challenge. Once you've found a good spot, call Lester and use the Off The Radar option to keep your winning location a secret.
  • For Challenges that require you to fly close to the ground, use the altimeter on the radar to gauge how close you are to ground level.
  • Ensure your garages are fully stocked with bicycles, motorbikes and turbo-charged super cars to make sure you always have the right tools for the job.
  • Call Pegasus to deliver your helicopters and planes nearby as they may be vital for certain Challenges.

If you've come across anymore pro-tips of your own, share them with the community by dropping them in the comments section below.

Rockstar Game Tips: Mastering Freemode Events Part Two

Posted on October 6 2015, 12:37pm | Author: R* M | Filed Under: Games

In the second part of our Rockstar Game Tips for the new GTA Online Freemode Events, we're looking at the ways to navigate Kill List and Competitive Kill List, Penned In, Dead Drop and Checkpoints on your road to successful mayhem. If you missed the first part of our Freemode Events Game Tips, check out Part One for more pro tips that will help you score big in the Freemode Events.

First things first - prepare yourself for the potential impending chaos of the Freemode Events. To emerge a survivor and victor in these games, we recommend taking on board the following general tips:

  • Stock up on all the essentials. Make sure you're armed to the teeth with plenty of firepower and ammo to back it up, decent Armor to protect you and Snacks at the ready. A good range of vehicles at your disposal will also be hugely beneficial, so make sure you've got a reliable mix - from motorcycles to sturdy off-road wheels - and be ready to call your Mechanic should you need to. Getting airborne may come in handy too, so have a chopper or a plane primed at Pegasus.
  • Be generous with those bills by teaming up with others to help you take on those tricky challenges. You can team up and share your cash by going to the Inventory section in your Interaction menu, and selecting Cash. From there, choose which player you'd like to share with as well as a percentage cut.
  • Keep an eye out for the purple help text and UI, which will pop onto your screen every so often. These hints will give you some helpful information specific to the Freemode Events.
  • Don't get distracted from your main objective. Staying focused on the prize in all the Events helps you avoid getting caught up in fights with other challengers, which puts you at risk of being defeated by another player.
  • If you want to avoid auto-targeting your friends during Events, be sure to set your Player Targeting Priority to 'Strangers.'

Make sure all the guns are manned to maximize your stopping power.

In this Event, you'll be taking control of some heavy hitting machinery to duke it out with persistent mercenaries from Merryweather Security. Once you enter the vehicle, the countdown timer will start and you'll begin to rack up cash and RP for each kill. The Competitive version of this Event allows you and up to three other players to eliminate the Merryweather soldiers. The player with the most kills after 8 minutes will also grab an additional cash and RP bonus.

The Merryweather Security heavies will be laying down some furious fire so be quick and stay on the move to avoid hits from the mercenaries. Make the most of the industrial vehicles and use the maximum amount of players for each vehicle to deal the most damage. With this boost in numbers per vehicle, work as a team to outmaneuver and take down Merryweather but avoid wasting time or ammunition on the opposing team as you're unable to damage them. Your focus should be on taking out the Merryweather troops and getting as many kills as you can to build up cash and RP. If you're hitting the skies with a chopper, players seated in the back should make the most of their heavy weapons and rain down damage from above. Keeping an eye on the radar will help you get the jump on the Merryweather gunships, lay down some heavy fire as they approach to destroy them before they get into their attacking range. Also watch out for Merryweather mercenaries stationed on the ground as they will often be armed with RPGs and will make good use of cover to avoid your fire.

Sticking close to the center of the dome and staying away from competitors is key to success in Penned In.

As soon as you see that Penned In is about to begin, jump into the nearest ride and find your way into the ring before the timer starts. The goal is to stay within the dome as it begins to move and shrink, attempting to knock other participants out, while doing your best to stay in the area. Your weapons are disabled for this round, so you must rely on expert driving skills to hold your ground and earn the cash and RP rewards.

As soon as you get notified of this Event, you'll need to think quick: an extra few seconds finding the right vehicle could mean you miss out on competing entirely. Bikes have greater maneuverability than cars but players should be wary of being easily knocked off by more heavy-weight contenders. However, while heavier, bigger vehicles are useful for pushing other cars out of the pen, you may find it harder to keep up the pace as the dome speeds up and shrinks in size. For those tempted by a plane or helicopter, don't forget that the dome has a height restriction - in our experience, steer well clear. Once you've chosen your vehicle, race as quickly as you can to get to the purple dome - the combo of a Merryweather pickup and a Mechanic delivery at the destination might be your best move.

Once the Event begins, remember that location is key, so try and keep to the middle of the pen and stay out of trouble. Competition will only get fiercer as the dome gets faster and smaller and there's less space to occupy. Keep an eye out for direction changes in the dome which could shift your momentum.

Work as a team, provide covering fire and protect those making a dash for the bag.

Dead Drop begins as soon as one person picks up the package that appears on your Radar. From there, each player battles to be the one holding the package when it reaches the destination marked on your map. There are cash and RP bonuses for taking out the holder, while the final carrier will pick up an extra cache as well as bragging rights for a smuggler’s run pulled off successfully.

There is significant strength in numbers in this Event, as long as you trust your partner to keep you safe and share the cash. Simultaneously driving and shooting is no easy skill, so sharing these tasks between two will turn you into a formidable force. Once you have the package, make a break towards a void of players - it can get tricky when you're totally surrounded. Avoid tight areas and corners where you could get boxed in with little room to escape. If you're the one doing the chasing then plan ahead and work out the best routes to counterattack and block the player with the parcel so that you can snap up your chance of victory.

Choosing the correct vehicle for the job will help immensely when collecting checkpoints.

When your Radar lights up with a plentiful number of Checkpoint icons, your objective will be to take to the land, sea or air to collect as many as you can in the allotted time. Before the Event begins, all of the players who want to join in will be directed to an area in Los Santos or Blaine County. Once there, they will then scatter in a mad dash to rack up the most Checkpoints with the aim to win cash and RP bonuses at the top of the leaderboard.

This is another Event where choice of vehicle is crucial in deciding whether you can make the top spot or not. Planes are faster but choppers can reach Checkpoints nestled in narrower, smaller places that planes may struggle with. For land Checkpoints dotted across rougher, heavy-duty terrain, consider using an off-road vehicle or a motorbike to speed up collection in tighter spots. Take the time to plan a route on your map, and steer clear of any congested areas - you don't want to waste precious time reaching a tricky Checkpoint only to have it snatched away from you as you approach. If you're in a Crew session, this is a great opportunity to test your teamwork skills: if ALL the checkpoints are collected, then everyone involved gets an extra GTA$5,000 and 1000 RP each. Numbers always welcomed by any pocket!
