Rockstar Video Editor: The First Days

Posted 2 days, 20 hours ago | Author: R* M | Filed Under: Social Club, Games

We've been enjoying the first videos created by GTAV PC players around the globe with the new Rockstar Editor this past week, and a few directors have already come to grips with the deep suite of features including blends, slow-motion, music effects and more. Some YouTubers are even using the Rockstar Editor's tools in conjunction with their own to explore new possibilities and take their channel videos to the next level. Check out some of our favorites below:

GTA 5 - V.I.S.I.T.O.R.S. [Rockstar Editor Fan Trailer] by GTA Series Videos

For their first endeavor with the GTAV PC editor, the group over at GTA Series Videos looked to a classic GTA trailer for inspiration. Replacing the stoically strolling Niko Bellic with GTAV's Michael, Trevor and Franklin, we see a similar trek made through the streets of Los Santos and Blaine County with a few NPC cameos dropped in for good measure.

Grand Theft Auto V | Los Santos & Blaine County - Fan Trailer (PC) by RageDev

Syncing up a lively music track with complimentary scene-by-scene cuts, RageDev captures the look and feel of an action-packed day in Los Santos. Mixing in the busy sights and sounds of the city to contrast against quieter moments afforded by the great outdoors and open horizon, this trailer seems to cover all the bases.

The Thief by Houratronic

This phenomenal effort from YouTuber Houratronic was posted within hours of the game going live and is certainly among the most accomplished videos we've seen so far. Houratronic has used every tool in the arsenal to turn a simple idea into a cinematic gem. Watch for consistent use of blends to add movement to the driving sequences, just the right amount of slo-mo, appreciation of sound levels to adjust music intensity at the right times, a few handheld effects and a clean, definitive conclusion.

The PC Police Chase by Rechyyy

Even if you're not familiar with his previous work, from the opening seconds it's clear that Rechyyy has a keen sense of cinematic language and key concepts, such as editing to music, establishing shots and instant action. Cut neatly to a pounding industrial rock backing track, we see Franklin evade cops through the Raton Canyon before a Thelma and Louise style ending and fade to black.

Sunday Drifting by GTA Wise Guy

Also no stranger to the Rockstar Newswire, GTA Wise Guy showcases a cop evasion master class employing a very different set of driving skills. The panache and audacity of his drifting talents is matched by the confidence to throw in overheads and full-on crotch shots into this drifting showcase.

The Epic Stand-Off by Domestic Mango

While rampages through Downtown Los Santos have been par for the course in the opening few days of the Rockstar Editor, Domestic Mango executes this particular interpretation with stylish flair. Focusing on small details such as a grenade getting lodged under a cop car's wheel, or an officer’s face as he flies through the air, it adds moments of understated cool to a chaotic sequence.

ALSO CHECK OUT:

Barbara Schwartzburger by Melonium: Captured using Director mode, Melonium's film is everything at once: slapdash yet stylish, asinine but amazing. Judging by the Social Club comments, we're not the only ones looking forward to the future adventures of Ms. Schwartzburger.

Garage by Renaton: "Man goes for walk up and down garage" doesn't sound like much when written out, but Renaton combines it with an array of blends, visual effects and a badass Declasse Tornado to create the perfect introduction to a lovely orange clad GTA Online vehicle collection.

Michael's Car Fantasy by Tyrranicon: The synth is cranked up to the max in this 80s throwback montage that takes place entirely within Michael's head. From the pulsing beats to the neon lights, this electro sequence is a retro tableau.

Director Demo by SGTJackCott: Described as a "demo" this contains more than enough cool ideas to be defined as a completed video in its own right. We're looking forward to seeing more from SGTJackColt, particularly his ability to find the perfect song to set the scene.

Grand Theft Auto V - Nope! by Rusty Recoil: Against the backdrop of a glorious sunset, Franklin takes a ride down the scenic slopes to Los Santos and through the Vinewood sign before meeting a slightly sticky end.

Rockstar Game Tips: GTA Online Adversary Modes

Posted on March 18 2015, 5:22pm | Author: R* M | Filed Under: Games

Alongside the release of Heists, players were given the opportunity to unlock new Adversary Modes in GTA Online to play. Adversary Modes offer a series of new challenges, both for teams working together to hunt in packs, and for aces and pairs to prove they can survive when the numbers are against them. In case you haven't quite come to grips with these modes yet, or if you're looking to master your technique, we've collected a few tips to share so that you can dominate the opposition. If you're not yet familiar with how they work, you can read up on them a bit via our preview of each mode.

Hasta La Vista

Hasta La Vista challenges two Truckers in big rig cabs to mow down two slower (but more maneuverable) Cyclists, before they reach a designated checkpoint. It's crucial that the Truckers remember that only one of the Cyclists need to reach the checkpoint in order for the Cyclists to win. With this in mind, Truckers are encouraged to work together to take out the Cyclist in front before focusing on the one in the rear. By doubling up you're increasing the size of your battering ram, making it harder for Cyclists to cut a last minute swerve to get out of your way. Even if the Truckers aren't able to turn the Cyclists into road pizza, they can also win if the timer runs out before a Cyclist reaches the finish line. Sometimes keeping a Cyclist occupied is as good a tactic as killing them to ensure victory.

Hasta La Vista offers the perfect battle between the contrasting attributes of speed and maneuverability. It's imperative that the Cyclists use the advantages of their nimbler vehicles to the fullest - manipulating the enhanced acceleration and braking of the bicycles to dodge and avoid the heavy blows of the big rigs. Also, if you're on two wheels, don't forget about clicking the right analog stick of your controller to look behind you and anticipate incoming attacks. Finally, be sure to use the specific features of each map to protect yourself from incoming damage by swerving in front of the natural barriers on each route. In the Los Santos storm drain in Hasta La Vista I, the pillars supporting each bridge will help to cover you; on the routes through Blaine County you may need to use the trees and fences to assist your getaway.

Siege Mentality

In Siege Mentality, a small group of Defenders must defend their solitary lives from waves of Attackers for a given amount of time. The Attackers will always start Siege Mentality further away from where they will respawn after being killed. This buys the Defenders a few extra seconds at the start of the Mode to anticipate routes of attack and set themselves in positions where they can create chokepoints in those areas. With two players, this opening position is critical to defense and coordination is key to covering all possible angles. In those opening moments, it can be prudent to set up booby traps with Proximity Mines and Sticky Bombs at any points that you can't easily cover. In the case of the Sticky Bombs, hold off on hitting the trigger button until the last moment: this will ensure the maximum number of Attackers are within range of your ring of fire. Throughout the battle, make sure to speak over headsets when you spot an Attacker so that your fellow Defenders can help if you need backup. One final tip for the Defenders: sometimes an Attacker may attempt to keep you pre-occupied causing you to let your guard down for other potential Attackers. If an Attacker is too far out of reach, move on to looking for others to defend against.

In Siege Mentality, Attackers will often vastly outnumber the Defenders. They must capitalize on this advantage by making sure that they keep the pace high and attacks relentless. Camping out and waiting for a moment to strike will only allow Defenders to reposition and reload; you have to be prepared to die in your quest to get close enough to blast them away. At the start of the Job, it may be worth coordinating positions so that Defenders are surrounded. This will make it harder for them to use cover and keep their backs to the wall. Don't make it easy on them by attacking from the same point.

Come Out To Play

Come Out To Play is a game mode that combines elements of both Hasta La Vista and Siege Mentality, and thus players can draw on experiences in those two game modes to ensure victory. Like the Cyclists in Hasta la Vista, Runners have more options for maneuverability around the map. In particular they are able to scale walls and traverse rooftops in ways that the Hunters (locked to their vehicles) cannot. Escaping over a wall or up a stairway can put you out of range of the Hunters’ sawn-off shotguns and buy you time to turn and pick them off with one of your more advanced weapons. Just as the Defenders in Siege Mentality are advised to cover each other, Runners should work together to cover attacks coming from all sides. In particular, be sure to move across open ground as one unit. Face opposite directions to ensure that there are no surprises. Co-ordination via headset will be crucial for this. Once you're on the finishing straight, you may be required to cross a significant stretch of open ground. At this point your advantage of being on foot is limited. However, only one Runner has to reach the final flare, so their partner can stay behind and camp out to protect their teammate making a dash for the finish.

For the Hunters, dividing and conquering is the key to victory. Runners will look to stick together for safety - if you can split them up and focus your attacks on one Runner, you are better able to distract and surround them. To help coordinate this, remember that Runners can't see you on the HUD until you're within hearing range. By contrast, you'll be able to see their position at all times. Knowledge is power, so use this to move to either side of them and attack at the same time. Choose when to attack carefully; Runners are most vulnerable when they expose themselves crossing open ground - so anticipate their movement and pick your spots. Knocking players over is a crude but effective tactic: as they sprawl on the ground from the first hit, have a second player take advantage of their recovery time to get up close and line-up a finishing blow. Finally, Hunters shouldn’t forget that they can turn off their headlights with the right D-Pad button in order to sneak up on the Runners in the dark more easily.

Keep an eye for an announcements about forthcoming Twitch live streams featuring these Adversary Modes. We'll also be tweeting out opportunities to join those streams so please do follow us on the Rockstar Games Twitter feed to find out how to play in our stream lobby. And we know that many of you have been asking for tips on the Heists themselves, but since they are a unique challenge in GTA Online we don't want to spoil any elements for those who may not have played them yet. However, if you have some tips to share or stories about a tactic you've discovered while playing please feel free to share in the comments below.

New Rockstar Verified Jobs: First LTS Creator Selections, a Zombie-Clown Shotgun Shootout and More

Posted on February 3 2015, 12:20pm | Author: R* M | Filed Under: Social Club, Games

Today, we've got ten exemplary additions to the pool of Rockstar Verified GTA Online Jobs, including the first batch of creations utilizing the Last Team Standing mode. There are also five additional new Verified Jobs, including a fun and frightful Capture that's among the best we've seen to date. Each of these has a maximum of 16 players, so they are all available now to play across all platforms.

Congrats to all our featured creators, and a special acknowledgement is in order for those picks in our #LTS Creator Competition, the masterminds behind those Jobs will each receive a GTA$1,000,000 infusion and the exclusive BODYBAG in-game license plate.

We're also adding select Jobs from this latest round of Verifieds to Friday's new Featured Playlist, and will be showcasing them on our Twitch stream later this week at 4PM on Friday, February 6th.

The sun shines down on San Andreas Shootout LTS.

#LTS CREATOR COMPETITION SELECTIONS

Stealth Required! LTS - created by sgt-vaguepouch
An epic and exhilarating arena-style LTS in the woods around Raton Canyon. Teams face off across a gully and must either use the natural contours and cover to get close enough to draw first blood, or find themselves long-range weaponry and fight from afar. As with all Last Team Standing Jobs, your blip on the enemies HUD is always visible, so use your teammates to provide a distraction while you grab the central RPG and try to sneak behind enemy lines. Although limited visibility through the trees makes long-range sniping a challenge, you can find good positions to take out the entrenched opposition. As sgt-vaguepouch explains "Stay out of sight or approach carefully. Take your time to take the opposition out one by one."

San Andreas Shootout LTS - created by wafflemann
An excellent example of an LTS that presents different challenges for each team, much like the Rockstar Created Skyscraper. In this case, the "robbers" start on top of the parking garage, hunkered down with Molotovs, RPGs, Heavy Snipers and Advanced Rifles. Meanwhile the "coppers" approach from the GOH in FIB cars, the Police Riot armored truck, or the Buckingham Swift. Coordination and timing on the ground is key in order to outsmart the team with the height advantage – try to surround them and lure them out from their hiding place, but don’t get caught in the crosshairs!

Teammates shoot across the gulch in Stealth Required LTS.

Lumberjack LTS - created by MRPTHUGLIFE
MRPTHUGLIFE, leader of Free Aim Crew GTA United World, elected to use props sparingly over a wide area in this vehicle-focused Job. Each team begins with four Buzzards and four Rhino tanks at their disposal, but more treats are tucked into the hillside above the coastal road just south of Paleto Bay. The Buzzards can be used in two ways: protect the Rhinos as the ground assault team move in on their opponents; or take to the high ground and land next to the RPGs and Heavy Sniper. From there, bed in and wait for the right moment to strike.

Close Quarters LTS - created by Matt-Conman
An excellent arena-style LTS that forces you to move fast and think faster in order to outwit your opponent. Stick with the default setting of 4 Rounds since each Round is short and brutal. Teamwork is key to cover all of the angles. Once everyone is posted up, move between cover spots to attack from both sides or overload the enemies with 2-on-1 situations at close quarters. The default weapon is the Combat MG, a rapid and powerful machine gun with the range to pick off heads peeping out from behind wrecked buses. Props to Matt-Conman for the balance on this Job, giving both sides different elements to play with, but equal opportunity to take the win.

Bowl Brawl LTS - created by coleco-vision
Already having been played an impressive 2.5k times, this one is a balanced and fun map with a high replay factor. Set in the Vinewood Bowl (a space we think has been surprisingly underused for Deathmatches and LTS Jobs), both sides spawn near SMGs, and must either make a break for the RPGs up in the nosebleeds, or put themselves center stage to collect the Minigun. Tip: stick to the side walls to minimize the chance of getting caught in the crossfire, and also to maximize the cover available to you.

ADDITIONAL VERIFIED SELECTIONS

Contend: Zombie Town - created by count_poopula
Here, Blaine County's quiet moonlit farming village of Grapeseed is transformed into a zombie-infested, post-apocalyptic circus of death. On your way into town, abandoned military vehicles and artfully-placed pickup trucks provide smart visual cues evocative of classic zombie horror movies. Coulrophobes beware - in the center of town is a clown-infested circus where a Sawn-Off Shotgun will blow away the first wave of knife-wielding night terrors, but once you're surrounded there's no escape. Teamwork is crucial to battle your way through to the Capture bag, and protect you from the shots fired by the Team coming in the other direction. Make for a quick exit, but be sure to leave some of your Team behind, so that they are primed and ready for when the Capture bag respawns.

Be sure to watch your back in Contend: Zombie Town.

Rodeo Loop - created by mozo15
An exciting, high-speed Super class Race around Portola Drive and the Vangelico Jewel Store. This crisscrossing track promises high speed collisions in any 16-player session, and allows anyone slipping behind the leaders to still make a nuisance of themselves. Neatly placed roadside props indicate a detail-orientated Creator in mozo15, although cynically placed tire stacks will punish any wildcards who don't respect the course layout. Be careful of the road's natural contours around the subway, as these could also spin out anyone falling foul of the "less haste, more speed" truism. A track for the mature racer.

Border War - created by TRIPLE_extremo14
A moody and atmospheric battle amidst the undulating terrain of the Grand Senora Desert that's best played at night and with the rain pounding down to heighten the tension. Be careful in the ‘no man's land’ between limited clumps of cover: stay close to your team and communicate as you dash between cover to make sure you have all points accounted for. Powerful weapons & explosives litter the battleground and can easily be used to blast away stragglers. Note that the Buzzard placed near each team's spawn point does not respawn, so use it wisely. Also, there are RPGs on the battlefield but they're not Homing Missile Launchers, so be sure to set Weapons to Forced and Pickups - to ensure the Buzzards can't be picked off too easily.

Sedans race past the eponymous nightclub in Bahama West Mama Mia!

Bahama West Mama Mia! - created by bobchilli
A very short, very technical Race around the Bahama Mamas West nightclub in Del Perro. Tight turns, narrow alleyways and a 16 player limit make this race chaotic, difficult and a great challenge. The default vehicle class of Sedans is an inspired choice for swinging round the corners while not letting players pick up too much speed and lose control going through the alleyways. Stick with the default non-contact setting and aim for a clean Race to max out your chances of earning a W - you might even be able to lap a few stragglers over the course of 3 laps. Bobchilli is a Race Creator veteran, with 53 excellent races to his name - congrats on your first Verified, Bob!

The Slipstream GP - created by MossyTossy
Set in the heart of Downtown LS, The Slipstream GP has the look and feel of a real Formula 1 track. This high speed Race contains hairpin bends, tricky chicanes and quick changes in elevation that demand full concentration. Long straights will allow racers to really open up the throttle, but the Race will ultimately be won by skillful drivers who know when to tap the brake in order to hold the racing line. Stick to the default Jester vehicle for maximum enjoyment, and opt for the Race liveries to fit in with this professional looking course.

Please note that in addition to occasionally changing Job names due to taste, copyright or other reasons - we also from time to time will make other small edits to players' Jobs before making them Rockstar Verified. This includes, but is not limited to modifying spawn points, improving checkpoints or increasing/decreasing the amount of weapon picks ups for a particular Job. Once Jobs are Rockstar Verified, they become available for play across all platforms, so you'll have all these newly Verified creations available in your next Freemode session (and you can always bookmark them at the Social Club for easy access in your next session).

Go ahead and post your Job below in the comments (only once, please don't spam) with a punchy explanation of why it's worth checking out. We're always looking for new player-created Jobs to add to the Rockstar Verified program and the best way to get noticed is to have a solid Race, Deathmatch, Capture or LTS that's been thoroughly tested by the community and refined into the most fun and fair experience it can be.

10 New GTA Online Rockstar Verified Jobs: Drift Paradise, Hipster Rage and More

Posted on June 25 2014, 12:56pm | Author: R* M | Filed Under: Social Club, Games

The newest round of Rockstar Verified GTA Online Jobs features a mixture of Land Races, Deathmatches and Captures that have caught our eye recently. Ten new Jobs have been given our stamp of approval, including Races perfect for drifting (and some of the retro rides included in The "I'm Not a Hipster" Update), a Deathmatch on a wasted bridge and a Capture Job featuring a gang of angry hipsters stashing contraband in 24/7 stores.

Read on for all the details on these new Verified Jobs and click each Job title to add it to your game's bookmarked Jobs. And keep an eye out for more Rockstar Verified Jobs in the very near future, including the chosen selections from our #ImNotAHipster Event Weekend Creator Competition.

Taking in the view in Holy Drift Mountain

Holy Drift Mountain - created by Heavy Magic
This Lap Race for Sports cars takes us along a picturesque route from downtown Vinewood, through Vinewood Hills and back again. Ambient traffic is disabled by default so that you can really carve up the winding, high speed corners in search of perfect lines - just don't get too distracted by the stunning view on the way down. Before getting Verified, Holy Drift Mountain had been played nearly 6,000 times and its popularity is entirely justified.

Far Out LOOP - created by Pakelikea
This technical road Race twists around the vineyards of Grapeseed and has Supercars as its default class. Several tight turns and hazards such as farm equipment and drainage ditches create plenty of opportunities to tangle with the opposition, and a looping section maximizes the chances for collisions as the pack spreads out. A great spectacle, don't be surprised to see this one in our live streamed Crew Battles soon.

Sky high combat in Maze Bank Fight

The Maze Bank Fight - created by N7 - Devestator
A Contend Capture of epic proportions, this Job sees two teams battle it out in Buzzards over a single Capture Object on top of the Maze Bank Tower. As if that weren't a tall order in itself, RPG wielding goons on the helipad won’t make it any easier. Once players have collected the package, they can either get back in their helicopter and fly back to their base, or parachute off and race back at ground level.

Hipster Happy Hour - created by Foghat1977
A shining example of quality over quantity, Hipster Happy Hour is only the second Job Foghat1977 has published, but this exciting Sports Race through Downtown and Vinewood shows considerable talent. Bearing some similarity to the popular Rockstar Created Race “Downtown Underground”, it works well with Traffic off and features excellent Prop placement to form a couple of unexpected corners.

Fighting over a loose bag in Hold: Shopping Spree

Hold: Shopping Spree - created by Skilledscout
Skilledscout, the leader of the Sir In A Suit Crew, gets down to business with this sprawling Hold Capture set around the beachfront villas of Chumash. The coastal town is really brought to life by dangerous Actors occupying shops and protecting the Capture Objects at all costs. Once you've managed to elude them, the escape path to each Capture Point is a breezy dash along the Great Ocean Highway. Just hope an opponent isn't waiting for you when you get there.

Marios Race - created by Fifides
Set in downtown Los Santos this short Lap Race sends Sports cars weaving through highway and street-level traffic, and features a solid mix of sharp turns and wide straights for overtaking. It's also well suited to Compacts. A savvy racer might want to hang back in second place going into the final straight and use slipstream to power over the small ramp just before the finish line.

A wasted bridge is the setting for an intimate shootout in Quarantine

Quarantine - created by Raymond Calitri
"The bridge is dead. Fight to survive." reads the description for this Deathmatch set on a section of the Elysian Fields Freeway that comes from a regular on GTAForums’ content subforum. Fitting the ‘quarantine’ theme quite nicely, weapons and ammo are limited and the road is littered with wrecked vehicles so tactical play and ammo scavenging are crucial.

Obstacle What? - created by GSXR01570
GSXR's motto is "Work Hard, Play Hard, Game Harder" and it's clearly paying off judging by this challenging obstacle Motorbike Race. You start out in downtown Los Santos, and race to the edge of the Grand Senora Desert and back. Along the way you’ll have to deal with high speed chicanes, obstacle jumps and up to 15 other players vying for position.

Rattlesnake Run - created by a_smitty56
Nonchalant Dominance Crew member a_smitty56's Supercar Race takes place on the road section around the El Burro Heights oil field. We used part of this route in Rockstar Created Race “Dock Ring” but it's a surprisingly underused location among the Creator community. Lots of twists, turns and wooden fences that you can push other players through make for a competitive Race where aggression is a virtue.

Taking to the surf to score some kills in Sonuva Beach

Sonuva Beach - created by Handcuff Charlie
Handcuff_charlie's first Verified Job Pier Pressure II has already seen plenty of play time in our Rockstar live-streams. Sonuva Beach is another creation showcased on GTAForums - a tight little Deathmatch that’s been marked out entirely with user-placed Props on the Palomino Highlands Beach. Clearly a lot of thought has gone into Prop placement to give this DM a central ‘focus’, choke points and alternate routes. Weapons are restricted to shotguns but grenade and Molotov pickups are placed around the map to spice things up and provide tactical variety.

Once Jobs are Rockstar Verified, they become available for play across both platforms, so whether you're on Xbox 360 or PS3, you'll have all these newly Verified creations available in your next Freemode session (you can also bookmark them at the Social Club for easy access in your next session).

Go ahead and post your Job below in the comments (only once, please don't spam) with a punchy explanation of why it's worth checking out. We're always looking for new player-created Jobs to add to the Rockstar Verified program and the best way to get noticed is to have a solid Race or Deathmatch that's been thoroughly tested by the community and refined into the most fun and fair experience it can be.
