Rockstar Game Tips: Mastering the Maps of Legends and Killers (Red Dead Redemption)

Posted September 7, 2010 at 3:30pm | Author: R* Y | Filed Under: Games, Social Club

(Eight participants in our latest multiplayer event, all playing as Red Dead Revolver characters from the Legends and Killers Pack, prepare to face off online...)

The Legends and Killers Pack for Red Dead Redemption opens up 9 new playable maps for Competitive Multiplayer modes.  In our two most recent Social Club multiplayer events, players ran across the rooftops in Gang Shootout in Blackwater, roamed around the treacherous narrow areas in Hold Your Own in Punta Orgullo, and took cover behind trees in Grab The Bag in the woods of Manzanita Post.  We played through pretty much all of the nine new maps in our latest multiplayer event, each one offering its own unique benefits and challenges.  Get to know them like the back of your hand to truly rule the roost online.

Here are some helpful tips to guide your way to victory online when playing in the new maps...

Blackwater
Playable modes: Shootout, Gang Shootout, Gold Rush, Hold Your Own and Grab The Bag
  • Use the ladders to scale buildings such as the Blackwater Hotel to gain the advantage of high ground...

(...and at the same time, be sure to quickly shoot down any enemies you see climbing ladders - or sneaking up behind you.)

  • If you see an enemy on a nearby rooftop, throw a stick of dynamite and blow their britches right off.
  • Narrow alleyways provide quick cover when you need to regenerate health or when running slowly with a bag or two over your shoulder.
Escalera
Playable modes: Shootout and Gang Shootout
  • When making your way up the southern road to get to the top of the hill, use the crates for cover.
  • Use the two towers in front of the mansion to get a good view of the action below.
  • When walking next to one of the many high walls in the area, always watch your radar for other players that may be climbing over or following you.
Fort Mercer
Playable modes: Shootout, Gang Shootout, Gold Rush and Grab The Bag
  • The back of the fort on the southwest end is a bit more quiet than the front, and a good place to rack up kills without the possibility of there being too many enemies nearby.

(The tower in the southern corner of the fort provides good cover and allows a wide view of the action below.)

  • As there are plenty of opening and closing doors at all times, it's best to stick with a teammate to assure you're making it around alive.
  • If you're running down a narrow hallway or are running inside some of the buildings, have a close range weapon equipped.
Hennigan’s Stead
Playable modes: Hold Your Own and Grab The Bag
  • Use the large trees to your advantage.  They provide ample cover in this otherwise wide open area.
  • Shady grass can help you blend in a bit with the surroundings.  Stay out of the sun as much as possible.
  • Stop every now and then and survey the land around you for movement.  You'll be much harder to spot if you aren't moving.
Manzanita Post
Playable modes: Hold Your Own and Grab The Bag
  • Use the tents near the center of the area for cover when needed.
  • Before running up to a bag, take a quick look around to be sure no enemies are nearby...

(...or are already there trying to get the bag before you arrive.)

  • Use the hills west of the road to get around the area so as to not be detected.
  • Avoid the main road and use trees to keep the enemy from spotting you.
Punto Orgullo
Playable mode: Hold Your Own
  • Stay crouched and aware of who is coming around each and every corner.
  • Follow along the rock face as much as possible as there are smaller rocks placed near the rock wall that you can hide behind.
  • When turning a corner around a large rock, have a close range weapon ready as you never know who is coming the other way.
Río Bravo
Playable modes: Shootout, Gang Shootout and Gold Rush
  • A close range weapon such as a Shotgun or Tomahawk will come in very handy on this map.
(House Of Kane didn't even see the Tomahawk coming while in Río Bravo in one of our recent multiplayer events...)
  • In Gold Rush, crouch and use the rocks for cover as you make your way to find bags.
  • This dry and bright area makes it easy to spot other players with dark clothing in the harsh sunlight - use this to your advantage.
Tall Trees
Playable mode: Hold Your Own
  • This snowy map has some cover with trees, so use them when needed.
  • Avoid the wide open and vulnerable area northwest of the "T" in "Tall" on the in-game map.
  • The golden rule is especially important here in the woodlands: stick together with your team to accomplish the goal.
Thieves' Landing
Playable modes: Shootout, Gang Shootout, Gold Rush, Hold Your Own and Grab The Bag
  • The Gatling Gun on the bridge on the west end is quite tempting, but only wise if you've got teammates providing cover.
  • It's always best to crouch while making your way around this map, particularly in Shootout.  Stop and survey the area for movement every few moments, always stay near a wall for cover.

If you have any tips to throw in for any of these maps, or if you are looking for help in any area of the game, let us know in the comments below.

unless you play for exp. but the problem is then you will have people just going all in until they win so maybe you should make it that you can lose exp. or an even better idea maybe you can make everyone start off with 1000 chips and if you earn more you can cash them in or keep building up so you can play in higher stakes. for exp. but if you lose you will have less to cash in. if you have none they should make it the next day you get an extra 50 chips and work your way up again. kind of like poker on facebook.
thats just my idea of how it could work.
i was wondering if R* would give me an idea of how theyll do it
R* all your DLC's have been great ideas and i love your game. (cant wait for undead ---htmare)
Great Job R*!!!

i agree what would be the point of playing poker in multiplayer
jonnyromesSeptember 8, 2010 at 5:57pm
I cant wait until the liars and cheats pack comes out aswell but i dont understand what players would play for in poker. theres no money online so i was just wondering what you get if u win?

@Californian_Cat To get good at headshots, you'll have to invest lots and lots of time with your controller practicing aiming and shooting, best way to get a headshot is to lock on to your enemy and right before pulling the trigger, aim slightly up.

@jedooley No code is required for the DLC download, right below where the screen says something about a code is a second option that will take you to the download page on Xbox LIVE or PlayStation Network.

@itstomasbitch @Everton_28 Thanks - please send a message to RDRSupport@rockstargames.com and we'll help diagnose your issue.

Hey R* we need a liars and cheats trailer i cant wait! Oh and a few weeks ago i sent a message to rockstar support about problems playing poker you told me that maybe its my ps3 or my red dead redemption disc, i saw a lot of people posting videos on Youtube.com with this problem, only for the ps3 version. We ps3 users need a patch...
jedooleySeptember 8, 2010 at 2:45pm
Where do you find the Rockstar Code? I downloaded Legends and Killers but it asks me for a Rockstar Code in order to play it? I used the 800 Credits and downloaded it but don't know how to activate it?

THX for the info R*Y! Good topic.

The Blackwater info was very helpfull.
Super_SouvlakiSeptember 8, 2010 at 2:22pm
@Everton_28
Make sure to send the R* support team an e-mail.
This is your problem: your router NAT is strict (not open).
This are the ways to fix it: open your NAT (just search for a tutorial) OR connect directly to your router OR get a different router. I did the last thing for this game and it helped. A lot of ppl had prblms.

You can also find info about it on this site...

Dear Rockstar please give us a few tips on how to perform a good successful headshot. Thanks.

Sometimes I do it very well, but also sometimes I just can't get it right.

ExecutisSeptember 8, 2010 at 9:35am
yeah the tumbleweed mansion is haunted, some scary stuff goes on at ---ht there.
jonnyromesSeptember 8, 2010 at 8:44am
I think that the Undead ---htmare pack is just what Red Dead Redemption needs, now when i have to play i won't just be shooting cowboys but zombies as well. I also think it would be interesting on what the zombie animals will act like.
Congratulations R* on another great idea
