Show your wild, Western side on Xbox LIVE or PlayStation Home with special Red Dead Redemption Avatar items.

There are three Avatar items you can unlock automatically while playing Red Dead:

  • Male and Female Sombrero – Obtained by shooting off someone’s hat without killing them (in single player).
  • Male And Female Red Dead Redemption Logo T-Shirt – Obtained when found in a hidden chest at Riley’s Charge.
  • Male and Female Rockstar Logo T-Shirt – Obtained when found in a hidden chest at Beecher's Hope (make sure to unlock the Beecher’s Hope homestead first).

There will be two more avatar items unlocked via future Rockstar Community Challenges to be announced next month – stay tuned for details.

You can also go shopping at the Sony Home Mall or the Xbox LIVE Avatar Marketplace for items to deck out your Avatar with – to grant them a Bonnie MacFarlane Outfit (for female Avatars), a Walton Gang Outfit (for male Avatars), and many other outfits, t-shirts and items.

              hmmm i shot a hat off and i went to riley's charge chest already and i have no new avatars can anyone explain me why is this happening?

              Having the same problem with the Beecher’s Hope chest, the other two (the ones you’re having problems with) worked fine for me though. I emailed customer support and got a response saying I would get a real response within 72 hours which hasn’t happened (in 120 hours) yet. I will be emailing them again tomorrow ---ht if I still haven’t heard from them. I have tried opining it on different days and reloading previous saves all to no avail.

                Rock Star not a happy gamer here :( In the MP Match area ie capture the bag etc why dont you let people die that shoot their own team mates ? It has happend more than once now that my own team mates, people who I didnet select to play with , are so bloody greedy when i carry the bag of gold they tend to shoot me right before teh chest just so that they can can get the points , I mean the game is to be enjoyed not to be greedy etc surely should you implement as system should one team mate kill another that the killer should die etc or even one of their kills be transferd to the person he shot.

                I mean come on this aint on and it is making this game unpleasent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

                    I think it would be cool, if Rock* could make the multi player free roam the same size as PS home!!!! For those that have never been on PS home...its an open world sand box,multi player free roam,just like Red Dead,just set in Playstation city, you have your own places to live/buy, furnish, and avatars to take care of and control. You can walk around and visit different places in the city, even game based "worlds" where you play mini games based on the "world" you are in(i.e. infamous,killzone). You do have to load up PS home like a game, but it is pretty much like a game, think a Sims World with thousands of PS3 users running around. I think that it would be great if we could play Read Dead with as many people that are in PS home. If MAG can do 256, and Home can do ????(I have seen hundreds in "SODIUM"and other chill spots) I would love to have my own property in New Austin!! Defend the Homestead!!! It might get crazy, but there could be a civilized district too, with sheriff's, stores, and everything else we see now, but all user controlled? I don't know just a thought.

                        @DeafAtheist,

                        "Cute & Playful"...WTF...what are you? A 13 year old girl? If so, you shouldnt be playing this game!

                        Honestly the XBL avatars look like they could have been Mii's from nintendo Wii...Go there if you want "cute and playful"!

                        XBox & Playstation do not focus on the "cute & playful" audience as much as they used to...Havent you realized this in all the recent Mature 17+ games being released?
                        • CoPieWriGhTon May 29 2010, 12:21amReply
                          @RazgriZ_FX,
                          Next time do your homework before you start barking. PS3 has 2 types of avatars,1 for the XMB (Dashboard) Then there is also PS Home which is a full figured avatar not just a symbol to go by like the PS3 XMB or XBL Dashboard avatars.

                          I am not knocking on XBox one bit here I am just stating the facts. XBox is widely respected and more people own them so it is the base system for almost all games. Which makes it a great choice!

                          Also, PS Home is not just chat rooms...it is packed full of mini-games in almost every area available. Theres poker, mini car racing, the red bull flugtag, flying games, shooting games, the list goes on. As a bonus if you do something specific in one of these mini-games you unlock free PS Home avatar items.

                          Im just saying dont be so nieve before you speak out about your buff of your favorite system. Each console has its own advantages and disadvantages, its nothing to get worked up about. It's just what the users preferences are, and everybody has there own opinion. No matter what, if one buff speaks out then another will backlash at them. Every action has a reaction...and what-not.
                          • CoPieWriGhTon May 29 2010, 12:00amReply
                            Some of you are turning into console buff fanatics on this board. Everybody with XBL can definatly see the detailed difference between the avatars, and yes PSN does look alot better (in detail). Also, PSN buffs...sometimes, people enjoy cartoon-like features or they are just trying to back up the console they are stuck with. Everybody has their own preferences and the opposing buffs will have to realize this eventually.

                            Why cant we all just get a bong? lol.

                            @ ROCK* I would definatly buy the avatar that i am using here, for PSN if you came out with it. The Black & White Superman/diamond with the back to back BB inside of it! Im not saying for playstation home but for my actual playstation 3 account avatar.

                            The outfits do look sweet, for both consoles!

                              @ SkyChat - How very narrow minded & childish of you to say such a thing. 360 avatars stand out, are displayed in the 360 dashboard, showing players in the dashboard friends list, showing who's in a party or on their own. They represent the gamer however they choose to look at their avi anyway, customising it how they will.

                              Thing is with PS Home you have to go into it & load it all up. Basically a really out of the way, lame chat room. The customisation of the PS Home avi's are generic & beyond frustrating to customise. The real welcome to PS Home chat room lame fest is when all you have to do is look around & see what it features; guys, basement dwellers, guys pretending to be girls & guys acting like dogs over the guys pretending to be girls. A very sad sight.

                              Anyway I for one am grateful for all the content R* put out for GTA IV & RDR. Though I do hope all of the *ahem* bugs *cough* are fixed asap =(

                                      I'm a 360 gamer and I got the Marston outfit and the lasso first thing yesterday morning before you even posted about it in here as I was up all ---ht playing RDR.

                                      I'm assuming the 2 on the right in the pic are PSN avatars? No offense but those are lame... not the outfits they're wearing but the avatars themselves... they're boring. 360 avatars are cute and playful.

                                      I had already found the shirt in the chest in Marston's farm house and the sombrero from shooting off someone's hat, but I didn't know there was one in Riley's Charge, too. I'll have to find it when I fire RDR up again later.

                                        Unlocking things in playstation home is pretty cool.

                                        I heard there was going to be a new challenge called "skin it to win it" but i cant find what you have to do.

                                        looking forward to more social club challenges.
