In Memory of Keith Elam aka Guru

Posted April 20, 2010 at 12:04pm | Author: R* Q | Filed Under: Games, Music

All of us here at Rockstar were saddened to learn this morning of the news that Keith Elam, professionally known as Guru of Gang Starr, has succumbed to cancer after a long battle.

Guru was truly a hip-hop legend, one of the genre’s greatest voices, and we are eternally grateful for his contributions to the Grand Theft Auto series as the character 8-Ball.

Our condolences to the entire Elam family, to our good friend and his long-time Gang Starr collaborator DJ Premier, and to everyone else who had the pleasure of knowing or working with the man.

Rest in peace.

This really makes me fire-up GTAIII and starting a new game, just cruising Portland, driving 8-Ball! R* better mention something about this in the next GTA, as a tribute, Guru deserves this for playing an epic character. An easter-egg, a nice grafitty on a wall or something...

And i'll change my avatar ASAP and i think, as stated before, that most uf us should do the same for a period.

@Silverballer95: I hate those noobs that you are referring to. I asked a guy in IV once who Tommy Vercety is and he said Carl Johnson's brother. RIP 8-ball

I read the wiki man it was an impressive career. I have recently been checking his solo stuff out as well, and Loungin is such a badass song. I will always love the pioneers of real hip-hop who actually have something to say. Also the Gang Starr song on the Classics is amazing as well if you have not heard it yet check it out next time you are cruising Liberty City.
