PC Title Updates in Honor of Episodes from Liberty City Games for Windows LIVE Release
In support of today’s North American release of the downloadable episodes, The Ballad of Gay Tony and The Lost and Damned, on Games for Windows LIVE – we’ve released a patch for Grand Theft Auto IV PC (1.0.6.0) that adds a host of improvements currently found in Episodes from Liberty City. In addition, Episodes from Liberty City players are also getting a small update (1.1.1.0) that will improve memory management and address a hardware configuration error. More detailed patch notes related to Grand Theft Auto IV are located below.
Enhancements in Grand Theft Auto IV PC include:
Shadows
- A new, less memory-intensive, and better-looking scalable shadow solution has been implemented
- Enhanced Night Shadows added with user-selectable level of detail (replaces Shadow Density)
Performance
- Rendering optimizations have been made to improve performance, particularly when enabling shadows
- User-configurable graphics settings have been added for shadow control
Multiplayer
- Enhanced security to isolate users from cheaters and hackers
Bug Fixes
- Vehicle shadows re-enabled between 8pm and 6am
- Fix floating street textures
- Pedestrians in vehicles appear further out from the player to allow for long range sniping
- The Moon has been implemented with simulated lunar phases

What's even more odd is that the only thing that seems to fix the slowdown (besides alt-tabing out of the game) is changing the view. Switching to cinematic view for a second, or even just looking behind me seems to get it running properly again, if only for a few seconds. Unfortunately it doesn't work all the time, and even if it did you can't play the game looking behind you at all times. Multiplayer is also COMPLETELY unplayable for me now, as it coughs up a "disconnected because your computer is running too slow" error every time I get said slowdown.
The same PC ran IV on the same settings with no problems.
The same PC with the same settings ran fine in online multiplayer for IV.
The game doesn't use all of my resources, neither RAM, CPU, or GPU. It actually taxes my GPU and CPU less than it did before, which is not an improvement at all seeing as it is now unplayable.
The only part of the game that is not COMPLETELY unplayable for more than five minutes is single player, and even then only if you consider playing in slow motion to be acceptable. I do not.
Turning the resolution, or even all of the settings down doesn't seem to fix it.
I would really like to be able to play EFLC the same way I did IV, or play MP at all for that matter.
is there any way to get the multiplayer benefits from the patch but exclude the graphic benefits because gta worked wonderfully on full graphics before but not any more
again please help me!
I have patched the game which didn't help.
My ATI 4870 has never failed me on any other game.

since I installed my GTA EFLC, my 2 dvd drives donc recognise any kind of DVD anymore,
Tested yesterday with another drive, that was working on another machine and guess what, same thing..
Any Ideas over here?
Already contacted SecuRom, but no solution for me,
can't even play the game -_- nor watch a DVD...
