Sorry guys – as you may have heard, it’s going to be just a few extra weeks of wait until the release of Red Dead Redemption on Xbox 360 and PS3. The game’s new release date – which we promise is final! – is May 18th, 2010 (May 21st in Europe).
We at Rockstar have always prided ourselves on the uncompromising quality of our games - and will always opt to take a bit longer to polish and fine-tune a game to be as perfect as possible when we think it necessary. With Red Dead Redemption, we felt that these extra few weeks will make a big difference in helping us deliver you an experience beyond your expectations.
Thanks for your patience. We believe it will be worth the wait.

Sorry about that, I guess that’s what I get for assuming.
@ Rockstar
Thanks for fixing the problem with signing in.
You started it... or at least yall or Take 2.
because May has a few bigger titles coming out that might hurt RDR sells
You don’t have to get so testy, and if you had paid attention to my post I contradicted myself on every one of my points by saying things like, maybe your right, maybe I’m wrong, maybe not. But you are educated aren’t you (maybe not) so you probably caught that didn’t you. I also didn’t think I had to point out that my whole post was hypothetical because I obviously don’t work for R* and only they know the true reasons for what they do, no matter what reasons they give us.
If you had said they don’t want to compete with certain titles and that’s why they might change release dates, I could believe that, but you didn’t, maybe you meant to, I don’t know. So what I got from your post was that they wanted to go up against games like Alan Wake and Lost Planet 2 (games some people have been waiting for from what I hear and might hurt RDR sells) as opposed to games like Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper and Nier (games I never heard of and probably don’t pose as great a threat to RDR sells). The only game I saw in April that might have given RDR a run for the money was Splinter Cell and that’s why I said it would be stupid for them to delay the game only for marketing reasons because March has a few bigger titles coming out that might hurt RDR sells (but I don’t know and neither do you). Your argument is what I said was stupid not necessarily you.
And I agree with the fact they need to wait to make the release date final until they can hold to it and keep their word. Even if they just told us it will be done when it’s done and release the date after the game goes gold or just a week before it hits stores would be fine with me. But I’m sure impatient people would b*tch about that as well or keep whining about when’s the game coming out why haven’t you told us what month at least wwaaaaaa. The only question I ever pestered them about was a limited edition and if the rumors were correct about it, only because if it was confirmed for the UK why not the US.
Also I never said you were an uneducated idiot, but if you got that from my post (maybe you are). And what unconfirmed facts are you talking about, because as stated above (I thought it was obvious) everything I said were my opinions and my theories as to why they might delay the game along with whatever reason they gave us?
Here is a conspiracy theory for you. Maybe they found a bug in the game that would cause your whole Xbox to crash and lose all information and become unplayable once you beat the game. And they just said the delay was for marketing to cover up the fact that they are buying up as much Microsoft/Xbox stock to profit off of it and add a disclaimer to the game that no one will read so that we can’t sue them. So when we beat the game all we win is a now worthless Xbox and they get lots of money off of game sells and new Xbox sells. WOW, I just blew my own mind.
More unconfirmed facts and walls of text coming to a post near you.
Ok Ok I'll take back my comment about the game being finished before Nov. 2009. However the original release date was in Nov. 2009 (thank you Beowulf71 for helping to confirm that). The major point I was trying to get across was that Rockstar has now, like many other companies, has lost what they had in mind when they started to make games.............THE GAMERS......Instead of keeping their customers happy by living up to their promises, we have to sit back and listen to all these excuses about poilshing up the game. I know that there may be unforseen delays, and such, but making their fans wait an extra 7 months for something that they were promised to me screams WE DON"T CARE ABOUT YOU, WE WANT THE MONEY. And bmb0815, don't thnk that I'm some uneducated idiot about this subject, games have been a huge part of my life for 26 years now, I do my research before I start spewing out unconfermed facts. Unlike some.
Yeah I forgot about that until shortly after posting that, they need to add an edit post option.
@ Anyone who wants to read this
I still think it is a pretty dumb move by Take Two and/or R* if that is the only reason and I kind of hope it backfires on them and they lose sells. Because like I said before some people are and have been waiting on some of the games releasing at the end of April and in May for a while and might end up buying them over RDR. If they released it now or on the original date not as many BIG games are coming out that caught my eye during that time so they would have better sells because all of us R* fans would buy it and anyone new to this type of game that may have been on the fence about buying it won’t have anything to sway them away. Besides it’s not like they are going to make other games lose business because if people have been waiting and really wanting a certain game they will get it anyway regardless if RDR is sitting right in front of it they will just dig behind it and get the game they’ve been wanting.
@ Rockstar and Take Two
Anyway like I said if marketing is the only reason RDR was delayed I hope it backfires and yall lose sells and the whole marketing team gets fired. Then yall can give me the job. : )
While I don't agree with @masterk369 idea that the game was finished in 2009, this most recent delay has less to do with polishing and more to do with marketing.

Inside Take-Two's fiscal 2010 first quarter results sent this afternoon, the company announced Red Dead Redemption has been delayed until May 18 of this year in North America. The title will also now ship internationally on May 21.
"We think it's a better release window and it gives us a few more weeks to market [Red Dead Redemption]," said Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick during the company's conference call this afternoon. "We think that's the right window for it, right before there are some other competitive titles in the marketplace."
