Max Payne 3 PC: New Screens and Details Plus Exclusive Interview with PC World

Posted on May 25 2012, 10:27am | Author: R* Q | Filed Under: Games

Max Payne 3 for PC features a wide range of advanced graphics options, including scalable high-resolution textures and character models, as seen in this new batch of screens, each of which can be viewed in full 2560x1578 high-definition glory on-click or over at the official Max Payne 3 site.

Also check out today's brand new interview with PC World, where we discuss many fine points of Max Payne 3 for PC, including the excerpt below:

What are you doing to take advantage of the powerful hardware available in a PC?

As you can see from the specs list, we’ve worked hard to make sure the game will run smoothly on a wide range of PC builds. But it’s when you get towards the top end of that range that you can really push a game to its limits, and the game will look and run incredibly on the most advanced current machines around at the moment and well into the near future.

You’ll find that screen resolution is scalable, there’s triple and even sextuple monitor support which helps to run higher screen resolutions, there’s various anti-aliasing options, scalable water quality, scalable shadow quality, increased detail for characters and vehicles and a scalable texture filter that further increases visual quality. We’re also supporting DX11 with Max Payne 3, with features including Hull/Tessellation/Domain Shaders (which adds curvature to the character/vehicle models), Gather4 (for optimized shadow sampling / FXAA), Geometry shader / Stream Output and DX11 texture samplers to name a few.

As you can tell, there’s a lot for PC fans with higher-spec hardware to sink their teeth in to.

@Pierpix89 No the retail version doesn't even use Steam, but I'd like to know when we can activate it!

@SirMD91 Yeah I am guessing you are right *sigh*. I made some pretty big plans to play the game tomorrow night my time. looks like I will be doing something else.

      • Ianmanon May 31 2012, 9:34amReply
Hmmm, I am a bit pissed at the fact that I paid to be able to play the game on release day but considering the size of the game and the amount of server there will be, that doesn't look likely.

I think its the last time I ever pre-order....even if pre-orders come with some cool stuff. Some

@Rockstar, some info on the status of the "pre-load" would be appreciated!
        • SamRosevelton May 31 2012, 9:36amReply
@Ianman I know right, Facebook, Twitter, Newswire and Support all have been quiet today so far. No posts from Rockstar anywhere yet today. Makes me think something is definitely up.
        • SamRosevelton May 31 2012, 9:38amReply
@SamRosevelt ...apart from the their tweet about 5hours ago saying the preload would come in the early hours of the morning which it didn't -_-
        • Ianmanon May 31 2012, 9:41amReply
@SamRosevelt According to Steam the game will unlock in like 15 hours for me. Thats about 5am my time so with any luck I can set the download on and go to work and it should be ready when I get home. Then again, 25 GB with all the traffic...OMFG. I have a lightning fast connection but that won't mean crap if the whole world is trying to download it.

        • SamRosevelton May 31 2012, 9:50amReply
@Ianman Yeah exactly it unlocks in 15hours, so that means if you already had the preload which they said they were working on then you would be able to instantly play it in 15hours time because you'd have all the files downloaded already :)
        • SirMD91on May 31 2012, 9:57amReply
@Ianman The funny thing is that people are downloading pirate version to activate it on steam later, then they wonder why so many ppl pirate games
      • alin2189on May 31 2012, 8:20amReply
yeah ..they just don't care about PC gamers ,where is the god damn PC trailer ..well thank god for pirated games ,R* won't see a dime from me
        • LALoseron May 31 2012, 7:12amReply
I guess that's why the offered all those games for free (Max Payne 1 & 2, L.A. Noire). For the price it's not a bad deal, but yeah it still doesn't work as an excuse to all the desperate people. Lets hope it runs well, that's the main issue, not the release date.
          • Grimm090on May 31 2012, 5:28amReply
Well, my retailer that I chosen to buy the retail edition off sent my PC copy out a day early before I headed off to work - it's at home ready and waiting for me. So as soon as I come back, that baby is getting installed on my PC! But @R* I was wondering, seeing how I received mine a day early, would I be able to install and start playing today, or would I need to wait until tomorrow to start playing??? It might be a silly question, but I know how crazy PC games are with security and stuff, so I don't want to get into any trouble or have my copy blocked or anything like that for playing a day early. Thanks if you can provide me with an answer.
            • YoungSaidon May 31 2012, 7:11amReply
@Grimm090 You would have to wait cause i installed mine yesterday on may 30 and it doesn't work because to run it needs a patch which will be published on june 1.
            • SamRosevelton May 31 2012, 7:28amReply
@Grimm090 Nope you will not be able to play until June 1st, the game will perform a release date check the same as Grand Theft Auto IV did on PC.
            • Grimm090on May 31 2012, 8:04amReply
              @SamRosevelt @SamRosevelt and @YoungSaid

Thanks for your answers. Aww man, that sucks; well when I get home I'll install it - I should be able/be allowed to do that? Plus I'm guessing at midnight tonight (GMT/U.K. time) I should be able to play right?
            • SamRosevelton May 31 2012, 9:34amReply
@Grimm090 Yeah there's nothing wrong with installing the game, it just simply won't let you play it yet :)
            • Grimm090on May 31 2012, 9:42amReply
@SamRosevelt Cool :) Thanks for answering once again.
            • YoungSaidon May 31 2012, 10:36amReply
@Grimm090 I hope it will be released for all countries in europe at the same time because if the UK midnight is the time of the patch release then it will be 1 am for me and that's not funny. haha. So i hope for the release they will take the country which will reach midnight first.
            • Grimm090on May 31 2012, 1:02pmReply
@YoungSaid I reckon it will be released/unlocked the same time Steam will unlock the game, which is 11 hours from now - according to the Max Payne 3 Steam page in the UK. Not confirmed, but in a way that makes sense I suppose. Really excited, can't wait to start playing it on the PC.
          • zachanscomon May 31 2012, 5:15amReply
you guys who feel let down and betrayed have partially answered your own question. you got caught up, became "fanboys" of rockstar and now you hold them to high regard when you should be just as pessimistic and cynical as ever. rockstar is not better than any other company, in many areas, as you have just discovered, they are much worst.

a quote comes to mind, i think attributed to benjamin Franklin or some other sagely figure: "failure to prepare is preparing to fail."

never preorder, even if you feel loyal. they'll pull a 360 and burn you. always happens when dealing with corporations who don't have time for the "little people"
            • SamRosevelton May 31 2012, 4:48amReply
'This game will unlock in approximately 20 hours'
Yet the pre-load still isn't here, I might not even have it downloaded in time now then. What are you playing at Rockstar, please give us some answers, don't leave your customers in the dark.
              • denis_fdrvon May 31 2012, 4:29amReply
Rockstar, why on earth haven't you released even a SINGLE video demonstrating how the PC version looks and works in action?! The release is tomorrow and even not a single edition has been able to report on the quality. After that aweful optimization in GTA4 and your attitude to PC audience, there's no way I will buy or preorder anything from you without knowing for sure that the quality is good enough!

come on Rockstar ,why you treat us PC gamers like this ,where is the PC trailer ..don't do some foolish thing like releasing it after june 1 ,because that would be lame as hell
                      • Spykerwolfon May 30 2012, 8:31pmReply
Will preload be available for the Amazon version? :)
                        • SamRosevelton May 30 2012, 8:23pmReply
I am wondering why did you remove the offer on Steam for Max Payne 1&2 and then add and remove and offer for LA Noire?
My paycheck got messed up this month so I couldn't order Max Payne until yesterday :(
My friends all got 3 extra great R* games for free for their £30 and I didn't. I don't know why these offers weren't extended right up until release day but frankly I feel let down not only as a fan but as a customer.
I'm not going to complain about Steam pre-load because I know certain other Steam games havn't even released at midnight before, I would just like to know why the pre order offer wasn't extended, I want those free games too for my money!
                          • Everton1992on May 30 2012, 8:20pmReply
Well, but more pre-load is waiting for those who have pre-purchased via Steam, so I hope Chile at midnight if you can.
                            • JerryKapowitzon May 30 2012, 6:43pmReply
Rockstar, do you guys know if there is going to be a midnight release for the Steam version? Or is that up for Valve to decide?
                              • Cowboy10ukon May 30 2012, 6:15pmReply
Well sadly, its too late for me now. Even if the pre load appears in next 10 mins, there is no way I could get it downloaded in time to play on release date. Sorry guys but if youre gonna release a game thats 35GB, you need to give people a chance to download the thing so they can play on release date. Not all of us have super duper speeds. Im stuck at 1.5MB and I know im not the only one.

Before someone says, hard luck I have 20Mb and you should have bought retail, I decided to get it on steam due to the offers, and the promise that there would be a pre load.

As it is, Ive requested Max payne 3 be cancelled on my account and refunded, You can still do this before release date. Pity really I have all the others which were day 1 purchases on the PC for me.

Rockstar and Steam , you really screwed the pooch on this one. I will still continue to support Rockstar with their games, but will have to have a serious think about getting them on PC.

@Cowboy10uk So you are angry at rockstar because you couldn't play the title in the release date?
                                • SamRosevelton May 30 2012, 8:29pmReply
@Turbojohn90 No...I think you'll find Steam users are angry because they have paid for the promise of having a game to play on release day. The pre-load provides a guarantee of playing your copy the minute the game is released.
                                • SamRosevelton May 30 2012, 8:33pmReply
@SamRosevelt In a sense yes you are angry because you havn't got it on release day but it's the reasoning behind it, you have PAID for a service which has not been fulfilled. Therefore as a customer you are entitled to be unhappy.
It's the principle of it, its the lack of information being given that people are getting agitated and angry at.

@Cowboy10uk Where did it promise that there would be a preload?
                                • SamRosevelton May 31 2012, 7:40amReply
@phylum_sinter000 Steam offers pre-loading as a service for you to your game to play on release day, this is especially important with Max Payne 3 considering the size of the game (around 27GB apparently). Rockstar themselves have posted on the comments on Newswire and also on their Support Twitter that they are working on a pre-load, so where is it?
                                • Cowboy10ukon May 31 2012, 10:29amReply
@phylum_sinter000 Rockstar themselves, look at bottom of this page, or load all comments. You will see various comments from rockstar, stating that there will be Pre load, sadly they seem to have forgotten to mention that the pre load won't be released in time to allow us to download it in time to play game on release date.

May not mean much to some, but I pre order so I can play on release date. Otherwise I might as well of just gone into town and bought the game when I can.
