"Facing the Future" - Games TM UK Digs into L.A. Noire

Posted on January 5 2011, 11:26am | Author: R* S | Filed Under: Games

A latest look at L.A. Noire comes from issue 104 of the British magazine Games TM, who traveled to Los Angeles to get a taste of the game, a glimpse of the Depth Analysis studio responsible for the incredible MotionScan technology, and to sit down with members of team behind the game including Team Bondi's Brendan McNamara and Rockstar's Jeronimo Barrera. Here's a bit of what they had to say in the feature on newsstands now throughout the UK:

"...our conversation with the b-movie actress turns to an interrogation, and we lose interest in philosophising altogether. She just will not co-operate. It's obvious she knows more than she's letting on, and not just from the fact her story has more holes than the proverbial swiss cheese. No, it's obvious because we see it in her inability to make eye contact. Or the way she's shifting from side to side or as her mouth curls up in some form of abject hatred as she hints at a feud between her dodgy husband and a local movie producer. We're used to videogame characters becoming angry, but we're not so much used to joining them... At this point we realise two important facts: the first is that Rockstar has clearly realised the power of its MotionScan technology, and the second is that L.A. Noire is drawing us in hook, line and sinker."

I hope that a demo will come before the full version (with a demo mission, with just only part of the city - for example)

Just wondering...like a lot of other people...

Is this going to be a game where we get to watch people adjust their socks and other dull movies all day..or is this going to be a game we can enjoy... IE RDR,GTA even Bully.

First, like the idea of Phelps as a Beat Cop, are there going to be robberies to stop, assaults to break up, shoot outs to get into? I'm thinking something of the RDR random event generator or even Nite Watch, it kept the game from getting stale, just when you thought you had gotten stick sick of riding between tall trees and thieves landing,,you'd have a bear or buffalo to chase, or gang of theives trying to ambush you. and I might as well ask it can Phelps Swim? (lol j/k no really can he swim?)

Also want to hear more about the music, GTA already did a great job of touching on some of the Jazz at that time, I too would like a combo of original score and relevant music of the time.

Critics of the open world said RDR was GTA with horses..those of us who played it know it was so much more...

I don't see why we cannot take the investigative approaches that are much discussed here and tie them in with good open world play... at Worst this game should be a very adult version of Bully and if it is that it will be an AWESOME game.

Don't care about the on-line part anymore. It's ruined by too many, who have nothing else to
do with their lifes, than sitting playing computer-games all day, every day - witch means, it's almost impossible, for a "normal" to
just go on-line and play a few games, and have fun now and then. And on top of that - comes the HORDES
of cheating f**kers...witch means: I don't care about any on-line modes in any games.
No matter what computer game I've tried on-line, there's so much cheating going on,
that it's not worth bothering playing on-line anymore - cos the fact is - most game companies,
does nothing to prevent cheating, and those who does - like R* can't really remove them all
anyways. And their should a least be a 100 pro cent NO TOLERANCE for cheating - no second chances.
People cheating - only understand one medicine, and that's consequences!

It's the single-player part I'm looking forward for - and can't wait for L.A. Noire to come out!

PS: English is only my second language - did try my best though ;-)

@R* Maybe you can answer this question in future 'Asked and Answered'. Whether we can change the outfit of our character during the gameplay? I always wanted this feature to be implemented in L.A. Noire.

Just bought the magazine a couple days ago. Glad to know that Mr. Houser is a fan of Mad Men and Aaron Staton. I can't wait to play the game.
