 Social Club

Beaterator PSP at the Social Club has got loads of folks actively uploading their custom-made tracks – sharing, listening, rating, and collaborating.

At home base here at Rockstar, we’ve been checking in and marveling at the quality, originality and vast variety of music you guys are banging out with our little portable beatmaking tool.  Some seriously ace stuff.

All Social Club members (if you need an account, register one here) can login and check out all the community-made music.  And if you’ve got your copy of Beaterator for PSP, you can also start sharing your audio creations via the in-game Studio Mode by pressing the right Shoulder button on your PSP and then going to the Miscellaneous tab (select Upload Song to My Music Playlist) whilst connected via WiFi – just make sure you have your upload set to “shared” for it to be made public within the Social Club.

Here’s a couple more standouts we came across…

"One Foot Forward" by buddemeyer72 – a breezy, uplifting, rock beat with crashing cymbals and a great chord progression. Who let Simple Minds into the Beaterator Club??  Sweet...

"Oldsch00l Be4t" by Sh4Rky – Some fresh heralding synths, and a whole lotta uptempo bop – very nice use of echo as well…

Elsewhere on the internets – we came across a couple interesting clips on YouTube of folks experimenting and having fun with Beaterator…

A German beatboxer who makes the music with his mouth… a Kaoss Pad... and with Beaterator on his PSP…

And this dude giving his hands-on assessment of Beaterator: “Beaterator is awesome… It’s got a bunch of different loops that you can use from Rockstar, from Timbaland… They got guitar loops, they got bass loops, drum loops, melody loops, anything – you can edit… It’s awesome if you’re a producer, and you’re looking for a easy way to come up with beats on the go… like, you’ve got something in your head and you need to put it down, it’s awesome for that.. if you just wanna mess around and make beats, it’s also cool for that too.”

Couldn’t have said it better ourselves, Treezy.  Check out the original track he made called “Premature” starting at about 2 minutes in – using the mic input for a little humming sample loop.

I got my copy today. I have to say I was impressed. Back in the 90s I enjoyed the eJay software. Not since then have I gotten into creating my own music as much I have with Beaterator. It's quite interesting to see the music created by beginners, all the way to professionals.

It's the kind of thing that's easy to pick up, but it's also complex. So once you really start to get the hang of things I'm sure you can create really awesome stuff.

Was nice to see the Liberty City Stories / Vice City Stories in-game menu sounds in Beaterator. Sort of R* Leeds' footprint.

Oh and been listening to the community's music as well, very inspirational :).
