Rockstar North
Lead Facial Rigger

Rockstar North is looking for a Lead Facial Rigger to join its highly talented team in Edinburgh for our current and next generation console game development. The successful candidate would be responsible for assigning and directing work to an internal and external team of riggers and technical animators, building and maintaining a team of artists, and driving quality.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience creating high end facial rigs in the video games industry with focus on both the technical and aesthetic features of facial animation performance. The candidate will work closely with the local and external rigging, animation and graphics departments to understand the systems and mechanics and balance our needs with the technical and aesthetic requirements of video game facial animation.

Responsibilities

  • Working with Lead Animator and Lead Animation Programmer to understand the systems, mechanics and pipelines of the in-game animation pipeline and drive this forward.
  • Working with Lead Graphics Programmer to understand the shaders and complexities of next generation rendering pipelines.
  • Keeping abreast of all current facial technologies and keep Rockstar at the cutting edge.
  • Bringing innovation and resolution to technical problems and challenges throughout production.
  • Helping develop and manage a facial rigging team distributed over several sites, including mentoring other technical artists to help improve their skills.
  • Demonstrate creativity and technical ability within the constraints of console development.
  • Develop and maintain approval processes for rigs.
  • Critique, evaluate and feedback to all our teams.
  • Ensure clear and consistent documentation of production pipeline.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional industry experience.
  • Prior experience of managing a team.
  • Exemplary communication and organisation skills.
  • Professional attitude and aptitude to learn.
  • Proficient with 3ds Max and MotionBuilder.
  • Flexibility to travel to other studios.
